Mustang II advice

Hello everyone I am new to this site and am enjoying it very much. I appreciate the positive attitude. I have just purchased a 1953 Chevy truck and I am wondering what is the most economical Mustang II front end out there. I will be running a 350/350 combo. I am not sure if there is a place on here to do an intro. So here ya go!

If going Mustang II for sure my advice is to buy a crossmember built for the truck. Don't buy the weld your own kits cause it will save you a lot of grief in the long run. There are no inexspensive kits, just the crossmembers alone run from three to five hundred. If you want tubular A Arms had to the price another $500 and stay away from the ones built in china such as Helix. Try and stay with good established products like TCI, Heidts, Fatman or even Speedway. If you want real good stuff Scotts, No Limit are vendors on this site and give discounts, just remember you get what you pay for so buy cheap get cheap.

As for the cheapest IDK, so times cheaps isn't the best value. I went with speedways, and it is one of the cheapest and I havent had any problems. I would look into scotts frontends, he has a very nice product and is a big supporter of this forum and if you had any problem with install he would be here, just a click away.

Just installed a Heidts in my 55. It went together pretty easy. They helped me a couple times. I have not driven it yet to give you a full report.

I just put a Speedway Mustang II Under a 48, first time using them, but it was pretty straight forward, tons of options as far as bolt patterns, brakes, suspension. It comes with great instructions, and anything I had a question about I emailed thier tech dept and got my answer right away. They have a ton of things for these trucks and I think the crossmember itself is 300.00 if Im not mistaken. In my opinion, out of the s10 frame swap, camaro clip....the Mustang II would run cheaper in the long run because 1, its new stuff, no replacing ball joints, tie rods, and stuff like that for a while. 2, Unlike the s10 and clip, you can do it by yourself, with little to no help, where with the frame and clip, youve got some pretty heavy duty lifting. And 3 they look tons cleaner.

I use Speedway and always request SpeeDeeDelivery.com and they treat your stuff right and may save money over conventional truck freight rates and I think they go to your area.

Yeah speedway isby far the best customer service Ive dealt with yet.....worst was Airbagit.com they were so missleading and they couldnt even pull my avvount up even though I had my confirmation number so I had to sit there and let this guy tell me I ordered the wrong solenoids for my door kit, when the reciept had everything right....

I have a 58... for those with experience, I was hoping you might help with a couple answers.

1. Do you need to take the front end off (fenders, core support, hood, engine etc) to install the IFS. I was hoping you can just weld it in from underneath.

2. My 350 is mounted to the original crossmember so can you leave that in?

I will never say anything CAN'T be done, but you will be way ahead to atleast pull the motor, and i would think the front clip. On mine the OEM crossmember was deleted.

Scott's kits are great but you are talking right at 3K for the complete kit.

I bit off on a Helix kit and I can't recommend one to anyone after looking at those. Welder Joe on Ebay is their backdoor outlet so don't bight off on one of theirs. The design isn't bad but several of the welds are ground through on the crossmeber to the point that the whole thing needs to be rewelded before it can be used. It was CHEAP though as I have less than 400 in cross member and A arms. My son and I will also have several hours of extra welding in it to make it work too. I

I've been looking at http://supremehotrods.com/ They have a crossmember for 300 that they say is made in the USA and they say they have them for individual models of vehicles but I'd contact them directly and ask before doing any ordering. I contacted them on something else and they got right back to me on it. Still if the price is a bunch less than other offerings there has to be a reason that it is less. It may only be that they didn't grind down the welds but one has to figure out why on these things.

That may be fairly inexpensive if you make 100,000 and up a year but on my wages there is no way I could justify spending that much money on the front end of my pickup. That is one of the things you seem to forget when you constantly push your products, it takes a hell of a lot better than average income to be able to buy them and some of us are on a pretty tight budget.

If I had do overs on mine I'd drive to Seattle or Portland and buy a complete Jag XJ6 front suspension and be done with it. They just aren't available in wrecking yards here locally nor are there many dead Jag sedans available locally.

The OP asked for advice on product, and that's what he was given. Pretty sure he didn't ask what junkyard to go get a M2 front end from.
