68 C10 build thread...kinda.

I was always a lurker around here and finally signed on when I got my baby last summer. I never did post a build thread. I honestly don’t have much I want to do with the truck because it was pretty much perfect in my opinion when I bought it. But I’ve changed a few things on her and plan to change a few things more.

The specs on her are: basically all original, even has the dealer bumper that says “Campbell Chevrolet Company, Morillton Arkansas” if anyone has any info on that dealership please tell me. factory drivetrain, 307, SM465 4-speed, and 12 bolt 4.11 rear end. 75,000 original miles. Basically a no options truck except for the side trim. Glove box tag is completely legible. She is a longbed fleet-side and proud of it! Original paint and patina, with donor fenders and tailgate sometime in the past. It has a 4” and 6” drop, 2 inch drop spindles and 2 inch springs in the front and 6 inch springs in the rear.. And Corvette style rallys, 15x8 on the front and 15x10 on the rear sporting 255/60/15 front and 275/60/15 on the rear. The previous owner added a 4 barrel carburetor, original style power steering pump, and disk brakes with the drop spindles.

Pictures of the very first day I saw her for sale along route 68 in between Ravenswood and Parkersburg on June 6th 2017. I purchased her 3 days later, would’ve been sooner if I could’ve got the money together faster haha.

Re: 68 C10 build thread...kinda.

Of course the second day I had her the classic door handle button tab breakage happened. I had no idea what the heck was going on until I disassembled it. I didn’t want to buy a shiny new door handle, it just wouldn’t look right. So my dad and I can up with a work around involving rivets and a piece of S10 sheet metal haha. Works great still to this day.

Thanks man. I was just reading through your thread yesterday. You’ve done so much to that truck. Your truck is still in my top 5 favorite trucks I’ve ever seen.

Thanks! I don't know why everybody wants a shortbed, I mean I like them, but I like longbeds better because no one seems to want them.
Love the Burb by the way.

Thanks!

I'll be following a thread thinking...yeah, this is turning out nice. Then the bed gets cut and I lose most of my interest in the build. Don't get me wrong, I like shortbeds too, but if they all look the same it gets a bit cookie cutter.

Yeah exactly! I shed a tear every time something gets cut that's original. It can never be put back original, it can be reconverted, but it will never be original again. Plus a longbed is just more useful.
You get it, after all a Suburban is just a longbed with a hat
Like your signature by the way.

Gave her a wax today. It turned out pretty well. The reflective properties are there, but it’s not too shiny.

Re: 68 C10 build thread...kinda.

Got a box of goodies from LMC yesterday. Put on the base model side markers, went ahead and wired them up even though it’s not original, can’t be to visible these days. I just used scotchloks and grounded them on the screw clips so no damage done. Put in new dash vents, and replaced the air control lever that broke. And started cleaning up to put in the new rubber floor mat, hoping to get it in tomorrow.

Looks good, and you're right about the improved visibility. It doesn't detract from the truck that's for sure.

I don't know if stupid has been multiplying faster than common sense, or that people just don't care anymore, but I swear that drivers are getting worse.

Thanks. And I believe the answer to your statement is “Yes.” Haha
Last time I drove it someone started to pull out in front of me and I was doing 55-60 mph. I hammered on the brakes, no power brakes, and was getting ready to jerk it down in second or something I wasn’t sure what I was going to do, thankfully they saw me at the last second and stopped in the other lane. I have been lucky so far, I have had many close calls in all of my vehicles, none of which would’ve been my fault, but I’ve never been in an accident. Not too long ago some dude did drive straight into the front of my car while I was pumping gas though hahaha luckily no damage.

Hey man nice truck, glad to see someone close with another C10. I live right up the hill from Shannon's where you took those cool pictures. We'll have to meet up some time this summer with our trucks!

That’s awesome, what are the odds? Haha
And yeah for sure, would be awesome to meet up sometime. I had entered in a show at Ripley Saturday but it looks like it’s going to rain, so that sucks.
I saw this truck in Millwood the other day. Would be pretty awesome to get a picture with a short bed, a stepper, and a long bed all in the same color combo.

Damn that is a cool truck! The more of these I see, the more I like an original, slightly hot rodded look. All the bling and shiny is nice sometimes, but nothing beats that original paint, the rallies and the patina...

Thanks a lot man. It really is my favorite look, it can always be painted and fancied up later if something happens, but it’s only original once. And plus not having to worry about scratches and dings is awesome. Everybody else is like “Oh my gosh a rock chip!!” And I’m like “Eh...that’s just aftermarket character.” Haha

Re: 68 C10 build thread...kinda.

Got the rubber floor mat in yesterday. It is pretty nice, man was it nerve racking cutting a hole in a new mat for the shifter though.
I also replaced the hood shock insulation or whatever you call it, man it’s so much quieter when you shut the hood and hit bumps now.
I replaced my broken dash vents, and replaced the air control lever that broke.
And finally I swapped out the plastic rear view mirror for a old school looking chrome one.

Some pictures before and after the new mat. I left the super thin old mat undereath as a little extra insulation. And one pic of the new mirror.

Re: 68 C10 build thread...kinda.

Got my shift knob from The Boneyard Sculpts a couple days ago. I wanted something rat fink style but not over the top and still reasonably comfortable. This knob fit the bill perfectly, and was almost the exact color of my truck too. This guy makes awesome shift knobs and mini sculptures. You guys should check his stuff out. He also does custom orders. He has a big cartel and he is also on Etsy. Here’s a link to his shop:

Hey man there is a cruise-in at Silkorski's family restaurant in Racine, Thursday 5-24-18 that starts at 4pm if your free. I may not get there until 5, so maybe I'll see ya there if your schedule allows
