A new Durmax Truck here in Idaho is around $55,000.00 and up and will cost you another $3,300.00 for use tax if you dont have a trade in., if you have a trade in ,you can take it's worth off the amount and then the state taxes the remaining

Re: Welcome to Washington State

Here in Maryland they come right out and call it a sales tax, and that's 6%. So if you buy a newer vehicle they go by book. But on old ones I always just transfer the title and do registration later. There is a minimum value they tax on. I think it's still $200, so $12 tax. They have no idea if someone just bought a parts truck or project and want it in their name because it's easier that way if the title gets misplaced. They want you to do that. Registration is for when you are ready for tags and that is a set fee for GVW.

Tim,
Last one I just did now has $600 minimum on the sales tax. Then don't forget the bay restoration fees and all the other crap they come up with. The new 10k tilt deck trailer I just bought a few months ago was almost $600 by the time tax, rag & title work was done. I missed out on the 3k lb empty weight of the trailer by 300lbs or I would have titled it in Maine like my gooseneck. The $600 was just for one year tag. In Maine I could have got a 5 year tag all in with title work for less than $200.
