Ring gear id numbers
I have some numbers maybe you guys can decode for me i have a 1991 chevy 4x4 z71 trying to determin the gear ratio the id tag in the glove box is obliterated and caint tell what anything says on it so i dropped the cover on the rear end and heres the numbers that i found on the ring gear 3984831 12 41 g.m.k

if you got the cover off count the teeth on the ring gear

type your vin number in the box on http://www.compnine.com/vid.php, that will give you every option your truck had from factory
