292 old block newer head compatibility?

I have a good head from a 1981 292 but need a new block. I have found a 1966 and a 1972 blockbut will they work with the later head? The blocks are cheap and any complete motors I find are pulled and people are asking 3-4 hundred. I'm not willing to spend that much on something I can't see run and might just be a useless block of metal.

Thanks in advance.

Should be compatible.
The 292 had a separate intake and exhaust manifold throughout it’s life span.
I assume yours is like that.

Thanks for answering. Yes both intake and exhaust are separate. I believe it is the later model 250s that we're integrated.

Agreed. And three separate types of 250 integrals at that.
