Re: Montana 70 Short Box

Rallies or steelies (15x8) both would look great on your truck. Excited to see the progress in the days ahead

Hi All, was able to add 15x8 rally wheels and 275/60/15 Copper Cobra GT's this weekend. Not much else going on yet, obtaining everything I need to change all fluids completely. Thanks for looking

Nice save. I am partial to the pale yellow paint, but that one is too far gone to save.
Enjoy your trucks!

Re: Montana 70 Short Box

Great upgrade to your truck. Nice wheels ad tires make a truck or car. If you weren't already planning on it one of the best bang for the buck upgrades you can do to your truck is add a front sway bar.

Re: Montana 70 Short Box

Hey All,

I am going to start changing all the fluids, any thing special I might think about? The truck hadn't been started for 10 years so we added a battery and some gas and got it running. I plan on changing the oil, trans fluid & filter and draining the radiator. Would I be better off getting the radiator "flushed" and if so do thing it could cause any issues? It didn't leak so would I be opening a can of worms? any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Montana 70 Short Box

My only thought is to NOT use any synthetic fluids.
Drain the coolant, see what it looks like, that will tell you a lot!!!
I'm not a fan of using flush additives, but if the cooling system is trashed, it's the only way to get most of the crap out...
If you can get the block drain plugs out of the block, that will tell you a lot also. If you remove them and nothing comes out, you're in need of a flush. If nothing comes our after removing block plugs you can cram a screwdriver in the hole to break the crud loose. Make sure you put teflon tape on the block plugs when you re-install them.

The only concern when using flush additives is what can happen to the heater core. Sometimes crud in them is sealing a leak, and the flush opens up a hole, making a bunch more work. I'd want to replace the heater core soon, anyway..

Re: Montana 70 Short Box

Just gave it a CLR bath, followed by a clay bar rub down and then Meguires Ultimate Compound. Next up is the polish and wax, I am pretty pleased at how well the paint responded.

Re: Montana 70 Short Box

That looks great. I picked up a 72 last year and just got it out of the winter hibernation here in Missoula. What's the process for a clr bath? Mine has great patina and I don't want to risk chipping paint off or anything.

Re: Montana 70 Short Box

Whether I did it right or wrong, who knows!, However I simply used a spray bottle with the CLR mixed 50/50 with water. I worked it in about a 2’ x 2’ squares using a green scotch bright pad. I didn’t use a ton of pressure but enough to take off the oxidation. I then rubbed it down with the clay bar and the Mother’s Instant Detailer. Not sure I needed the clay bar, but the paint seems pretty smooth and clean after. Hopefully that helps, don’t forget to post some pictures! Thanks
