Would you trust a vehicle that someone else has restored and is selling at a swap meet as a daily driver? Why or why not? heh, I'm losing my mind. I've been debating on selling my '97 ford SUV and buying myself a nice restored '69 camaro maybe as a daily driver, but saftey issues are concerning me.. what would you do?

Nope. I wouldn't Esp if the seller claims to be a proper restoration and tehy put it on the highway every day.

I would need to see lots of evidence of work well done or the price would have to be reeeeeeeeeaaaaaaal good. In my experience buying somebody elses project is paying for alot mistakes you could make yourself for free.

What if I take several hundred pictures with my digital camera during the resto process? This would show the rust "before pix", during panel replacement, (maybe even the welds) pix of slight glazing or filler etc. This would sort of "tell the true story" or keep you honest. What do you guys think of an extreemly well documented resto? Darren

I'd feel a little better, but I just can't see anyone doing a proper resto, and putting it on the road as a daily driver.

I'd prefer to build it myself, then I know what I have. As far as safety, look it over real hard, ball joints, tie rod ends, springs, brakes, etc, etc.

I have pictures of what my car look liked before and during. I also have most of the receipts. Thank God I got all the original GM Sheet Metal in the late 80's before it sky rocketed.

hrmm, well yall seem to be sayin what everyone else.. including myself have thought. I agree about the daily driver thing, a vehicle thats been restored right would be so nice.. I'd hate to ruin it by putting it in the rain hehe. My delimma right now, and its probablly a trivial one being that we have too many cars already, is that my '97 ford is having problems that the dealership can't find. Its slow, gets bad gas mileage.. typical ford. I see myself dragging this thing by the leash all over town for 5 years, and really have lost my taste for new cars. So.. I've been looking at buying classics as daily drivers, but as you've all pointed out, it can't always be trusted IMO either. I've taken 142 pictures of my C10 so far and all we've done is stripped it to the frame, blasted the frame, painted it and put the front suspension on.

A friend of mine was at the super chevy show last year looking for a nice 80s k5 to make a daily driver, the prices were REALLY high, but I remember the trucks looking like new. Perhaps I should take a closer look this time.

If your not going to drive it, don't bother restoring it. Leave it for someone who will appreciate it. Buy a painting instead, at least you can hang it on the wall and not have to keep it in the garage. Just my opinion, but your name's on the title, do what you want. Anyway, progress pics on the restoration are a must. Find someone experienced it body work, engine etc. to take a close look at it. An apprasial would be great too. Good luck.

I plan on making mine a "sunny daily driver". I'll drive it a lot when the weather's good, but I'm not about to take it out in the middle of winter when the streets are full of icy slush from being salted. My truck worked hard for 30 years, so it's earned the right to take life a little easier in it's old age.

I have seen a lot of things at swap meets,& if I looked at 2 identical vehicles.....One painted, & one not,I would rather buy the truck from the southwest with 1/2 the paint burnt off (from the sun). That way I can see what I am getting,bondo & paint covers a lot of crap........69 longhorn.

longhorn....couldn't agree w/you more. My bro does body work 4 a living, even more in his garage. He restored a 63 impala for my kid, real nice job(and not cuz hes my bro). He's had other side jobs tell him to use more bondo than normal, cuz they were gonna dump it. He wouldn't do it. Most found another bodyman. Ya get what ya pay for.
