Shaving intake manifold

I have a gen4 5.3 in my truck that comes with the tbss intake on it. I’ve decided that I don’t want to have the engine cover on the truck anymore, but the factory manifold just doesn’t look good. So I picked up another manifold at the pick and pull yesterday for $32. I started the shave on it. I’ll post pics of my progress as I go along. I’m gonna move the pcv to the rear of the intake, but I believe I’m gonna leave the map sensor where it is.

Nice clean look when you get it done, have you seen what (1971 step side build) did with his.

Re: Shaving intake manifold

I did one a few years back, ended up not really liking it after the fact and didn't use it.

Re: Shaving intake manifold

Paint it to match your body color, or add your own design.....limitless possiblites...I did some valve covers, takes some time masking for fine details.

So progress is slow. This weekend of the weather cooperates I’ll prime and paint it. Even without paint I think it looks much better.

smoothed truck intakes look really really good! When I was going to LS swap mine that is exactly what I wanted to do.

Re: Shaving intake manifold

What intake is this? External it looks like a regular 99-06 intake, but has a flange for a 4 bolt throttle body. It's on a 07 Trailblazer. But it's not the bread box.?!

Re: Shaving intake manifold

It’s the gen iv truck intake I think. But since it’s on a trailblazer it maybe a little different then the trucks. I think in the trailblazer SS they used the ls2 motor with a truck intake for the torque. A lot of knowledge here so I am sure someone will correct me if I am incorrect.
The truck intakes are ugly but are better for trucks due to the torque values then the car intakes. But depends on application.

It’s been a while since I worked on this last, but I’m about finished with the intake shave.
