Just to say someone had an extra '72 4X4 blazer frame sitting around and kinda wanted a swb 4x4. Where could (I) they get the info on frame dimensions and what not for trying this. I've got the time and I've also got 2wd swb frames if that would be an easier swap. Any opinions other than get a swb 4x4 frame? Those are too hard to come by and too pricey for me right now. I've also got a lwb 4x4 but I kinda wanted to keep it as a lwb as well. Any ideas or books I could buy for the dimensions?

The assembly manual has the dimensions, but it is basically remove 12" from the middle of the 4x4 frame and cut off 8" at the rear. There have been several articles with pictures on this topic and it might be worth while to do a search. Welding the frame back together so that it is strong and straight is critical.

Thanks for the info! Do you think the assembly manual would be the best book to buy? I'got the pics that ebfabman used in shortening a lwb, but I really don't want to do that just yet. I would like to wind up with a short, a long, and a blazer 2 & 4 wd representing each year. Give me an idea on the best book to buy.

I think that the assembly manual is invaluable if you own one of these trucks. It will not give you instructions on how to shorten your frame but it is a great resource.

The book is not organized or indexed, so it takes a lot of looking up to find information, but information is there.

107.5 for blazers
117.5 for swb p/u
137.5 for lwb p/u
hope this helps,earlier years are close to these if not the same.

with nothing to sit on....

i`d sure wounldn`t cut the lwb,to me i like them just as much as a swb(i just like them all).
