Re: "Rat Rod" Truck Pics
Really like all these pics.
The unpainted rusty hodge-podge of parts trucks were what we called "Hotrods" in the '50s. If we had one of those, we were in hog-heaven. All the old flatheads and 6-bangers bring back lots of memories. Again, thanks, Cayoterun

Re: "Rat Rod" Truck Pics
Here's a link to a couple I sent J to post the other night. The truck was pretty cool and so was the tudor but I think Asa and the boys would have loved it it was so "Worthless" it was almost useless.I don't have any specs on the tudor, except it was really low(maybe 2 in off the gound) and it had an Olds Rocket in it.The truck had a 2300 Pinto 4 banger in it.

Rusty, flat paint, put together and made to run with parts on hand = HOT ROD Shiny, clean, "finished", expensive fancy parts, built by shop = STREET ROD That's how I see it anyway. I'm not a huge fan of the term Rat Rod, but I have to use it so much to get what I'm describing across to most people, I pretty much just gave in. Mine is just a work in progress, I drive as I go, and she looks how she looks: My Camaro has been in satin black since I got her on the road 12 years ago: Neither of them really fit the normal "rat rod" criteria, but they are my hot rods! |

The new style for hot rods is a new interpretation of old school roots hot rods. Some are spot on,but most are built with a new twist never seen before. I can see how people can confuse their definition as rat rods. They are really more their own thing than rat rods or traditional hot rods. It's a new style within an old style. Like the car culture babes you see with '40s-'50s hair,'40s-'60s clothes, and 22nd century tattoos. They have nostalgic cues but are a new interpretation that is a now style. Technically, neither of your cars are hot rods. Hot rod has been misused far more than rat rod for decades, yet no one ever complained. I agree it just became a term to identify any vehicle that's been performance modified. My Harley is a hot rod Harley because it has that same vibe as a true hot rod. All these bikes they call choppers are just custom bikes, not choppers. That first dump truck showed is a hot rod dump truck. What else ya gonna call it? It ain't stock. The term used for modified cars from the '60s and newer is street machine. Like that Charger in Fast & Furious. That can go back into earlier decades if the vehicle is built in the style of the late-60s and later era. Pro Touring is just a contemporary way of building a street machine, just as pro-street is. They are distinct styles of their own,yet street machine still defines what they are.

Re: "Rat Rod" Truck Pics
I do understand all the various categories and what makes a car fit into which ever one it does. When I look at those old hot rods that get called rat rods, all I see is a good old fashioned hot rod. That's all I really meant by what I said. To me, all of my cars are hot rods, because they are built by me, for me, with the things I either have on hand, or can find, or can scrape enough scratch together to pay for (usually second or third hand). It's just my personal interpretation is all. Thank you for the thought and reply though.
