Speedo gear shaft shroud

Trying to replace the Speedo gear there is a shroud on the shaft I can't figure out how to get off. Tried to google it, but not sure what its actually called Last one I did nod not have this. It's an 1980 C20 but this is not origional trans.

Not sure what tranny you have but is this what your talking about? http://www.73-87.com/7387garage/drivetrain/yokeleak.htm There is an O-ring inside of it. Slide the sleeve foreword if you can to see the O-ring and remove it first, then slide It off the tail shaft. That is the part, the problem is that cup is not coming off the shaft. It will not slide I have tried a few things,gloves, leather strap both wrapping it and twisting and pulling , but I am afraid to damage it. It seems a soft "tin" so I do not want to beat it or pry it.

Plug the hole in your transmission yoke and you can throw the sleeve away. It just keeps transmission fluid from going down the splines and dripping from the weep hole in the yoke.
