Electric Hummers

Just this week I saw a news blurb saying GM will be producing the Hummer again but electric this time. Anyone else see that?

Re: Electric Hummers

This is just a 3rd party concept pic, but if it actually looks like this, it could be pretty cool.

I imagine it would be more the size of an H3 and not the huge H1/h2s? Or GM could be planning to combine with the silverado chassis for a silverado EV?

Re: Electric Hummers

I am not a Hummer fan by any means but found the news surprising. If GM is considering producing that one there must be even bigger plans for the truck division I would think. Keith may know more about this but cannot divulge any details as of yet. Hummer market is a small niche

Re: Electric Hummers

I saw that story. I also saw that Ford is going to bring back a Bronco with a removable hard top. I'd really like to see GM build a real Blazer/Jimmy again.

I thought GM sold the Hummer brand.

Re: Electric Hummers

It wasn't sold, it was closed as part of the government restructuring/loan process.

GM has paid the loans back, they retained the rights to the names (along with Pontiac, Olds, etc) so I guess they can do whatever they want with it.

Re: Electric Hummers

I also read they wont be bringing back the Hummer brand per se. They'll sell them on the gmc lots with the hummer name.

Re: Electric Hummers

Makes sense, bringing back a "brand" requires dealer franchises and all the stuff that goes along with that, but bringing back a "model" is easy.

Re: Electric Hummers

If the result looks anything like the rendering above, I expect there will be plenty of aftermarket support to make them more "masculine" in appearance.

How are coal fired Hummers more efficient than the originals?

That's what I always say to people who think electric vehicles are so green, like they have no carbon foot print. They are a reduction in fuel use and pollution, but until electricity production is totally green, electric vehicles won't be. It would be cool to solar charge your vehicle. I have no idea what that would take. All I know is my big concern around my house is how can I use less electricity, keep my bill down.

I'm done being amazed with the next vehicle I hear coming out as electric. It's which one will be next till they're done.

Re: Electric Hummers

Not to mention how "dirty" the mining is for all of the electronics and batteries.

That was the original argument over why the old hummer was "greener than a prius".

No doubt. Seldom do you hear anyone boasting about how green the battery recycling process is either....

Im pretty sure this is a lithium mine and Im also pretty
sure that lithium is in batteries. Ive always wondered where those things go when they're at the end of their lifespan....

Damned if ya do and damned if ya don't.

Re: Electric Hummers

Another answer to a question that was not asked.
I would guess these would be even more of a status symbol than the original hummers. See them in the affluent parts of your city but never at the River, deer camp, or duck club. Well, maybe a duck club but not muddy,
I’ve sways said any EV is only as efficient and clean as the method that made the electricity and the batteries that power them.
The torque of the EV’s is fantastic and they keep getting better but still far from anything practical for me personnally.
