So who out there in 69-72 Blazer land has come up with ingenious ways to hoist the tops off these rigs single handedly?

I have some hoist ideas in my noggin, but my concerns are hoisting it high enough and safely enough so that I can drive out and walk around under it........bolting 2x4's w/ cables attached to a pulley or boat trailer crank is what i'm thinking of......anybody got pics of anything like this?

Also warping could be an issue.....

I'd almost like to drill a couple holes thru the roof and use a steel bar bolted thru, like the block crank bar at the end of a motor puller. When the top was on you could plug the holes or use short bolts............this way you wouldnt need to mess with the 2x4 between the bed rails and the top...........

My son just unbolted his and along with his neighbor just set it off--(double wall).

Here's my genius idea...

Drill through the holes for the shoulder harness anchors located at the four corners (double wall tops only?). Then hang it from eyebolts screwed from the outside into the anchor nut(s). Holes could be plugged or attach a roof rack when the top is on the truck.

So this sounds good to me in theory BUT are those anchors strong enough to hold that pig securely? It's a back-breaker!

I bought 4 cheep rope hoists from Harbor Freight for something like $6 each. They have a 5 to 1 reduction, so lifting the top by myself is effortless. I slide the top back on the bed rails far enough to bolt on two 2x4s. The front 2x4 tucks up under the roof nicely. The trick was to route the ropes so that I could work two hoists at a time... I lift the back about half way up and then tie it off, do the front to the roof, and then lift the back the rest of the way. One advantage is that it tucks up to the ceiling (rafters) and is totally out of the way. There is enough rope on the hoists to drop the top all the way to the floor. The hoists are attached to 2x4s that are just setting loosely on top of the rafters. I put in two extra eyebolts on the near side to route the ropes through from the far side hoists. It is amazingly easy to lift the top with this setup.

That IS a sweet setup!, I like the way by using 4 pulleys outboard, you can jack the roof right snug to the rafters.........looking for my harbor freight/Northern Tool catalog now! Thanks....Resto
