Steering Question

I have a 69 K10 short bed step side. When ever I make a turn, the steering wheel is out of clock 90 degrees. If I make a r/turn & then go straight my steering wheel is out of clock 90 degrees to right. If I make a l/turn the same thing happens to the left. After I drive straight for a while it corrects itself. It is not the gear box because I just replaced it & there is no change. Anybody got any ideas?

Re: Steering Question

Have you checked for play in the linkage? This means every single rod end. I would think a quarter turn worth of play has to be visible somewhere.

Re: Steering Question

Also check where the rag joint attaches to the steering box.
Check to make sure the box bolts are tight.
Make sure the frame is not cracked around the box.
Check the drag link ends for slop.
Check to make sure the steering arm bolts are tight.
Check the center link ends.
Ummm......make sure the steering wheel is tight.
