flashers started working by themselves

Well this is just the craziest thing. My wife stepped out a while ago and saw the lights were flashing on my 06 Sierra. They won't turn off. The truck had been parked for over two hours before this happened. It was locked so no one messed with it. The hazard switch does nothing. I had to pull the hazard fuse to stop it. I put it back in and it started flashing again. I disconnected the battery for a few minutes and the flashers started again once I reconnected the battery cable. I can hear the flasher but cannot put my hand on it. Do I have to remove the dash to find the flasher module or what? With the fuse removed I have no turn signals either.
The truck does not have an alarm system. It is all stock. 160,000 miles. There has been no work done on this truck.
I was told there was a recall for this issue although I haven't been able to find it.

Re: flashers started working by themselves

Alright. After I removed the lower dash panel I replaced the flasher control module yesterday and more than 24 hours later it hasn't begun flashing on it's own again. I am cautiously optimistic it's fixed as I read I cannot test the old one at home. I'm sure it is the OE part so it's 9 years old. Flashers aren't the cheap little clickers they used to be either. This one from O'Reillys was nearly $75.
