Mystery with tilt column...

Recently I bought a used tilt steering column from a '79 or 80 GMC Jimmy. I installed this into my son's 81 Chevrolet C10 Frankentruck. Then I noticed something strange. The steering wheel is now upside down and will not fit on it any other way. I thought that the steering columns were all pretty much the same. Is there a reason for this? Was I supposed to have a different center rod for the steering column?

Re: Mystery with tilt column...

what if you seperate the shaft from the box, or one of the joints and rotate 180 degrees

Re: Mystery with tilt column...

The easiest place to rotate it could be right here in the picture below.

If your intermediate shaft has this setup.

There is a snap ring that you can take out.

There are 2 plastic square blocks that act as a u joint.
You can rotate it here also the best I remember.
