4L60 tranny compatibility?
Found a deal on Craig's list: http://seattle.craigslist.org/oly/pts/490931434.html
Am considering this tranny for my Gen I 350 build project, but am unsure if this newer tranny requires computer and wiring harnesses. I hope not. Can anyone confirm this? Anybody have any links to ID-ing these trannies? Thanks.

Re: 4L60 tranny compatibility?
the E at the end of the model indicates it is electronically controlled. if not going to fuel injection that will support itst control, you need a standalone controller for it. prepare to part with about $750

150 bucks and he's "very flexible on the price" according to the ad. I'd buy it anyway and resell it to someone who needs an "E" trans for enough to buy a non electronic version for your project.

Re: 4L60 tranny compatibility?
For what it's worth I looked at the pictures on Craigslist and it appears that the trans in the pictures has a throttle valve cable. I might be wrong but I thought the 4l60 e models went to full electronic shifting. Now if it's really a 1993 model it should be an E
There's always the possibility that it is a carry over from the 1992s and was put into the 1993 but I doubt that. If it doesn't have the electronic shift it's better for you and if it works as it should you could just do a normal swap. That's a lot of miles on a transmission to just stick it in the truck and hope it lasts. JMO

Re: 4L60 tranny compatibility?
Thanks. Great info. Does anyone know the years when the 4L60 was available w/out the electronics? Prior to 1992? When was this tranny introduced?
Also, does anyone know the gearing ratios for this tranny? I'm looking at a 3:73 rear end with 31" tires and am trying to hit around a 12:1 ratio. It won't be a daily driver; more of a street rod. Thanks again.

Re: 4L60 tranny compatibility?
93 was the break year for the E trans. Some were still non e control.
The od ratio on the trans is .70. If you buy it, be ready to deal with speedometer issues. The later transmissions used a VSS instead of normal speedo gears and cable. That's why I prefer van transmissions, they used cables much later than trucks and cars did.
