Replacing starter
Hi, I have a 1953 3100 with standard six cylinder engine. I want to replace the starter but can't figure out how to extract the upper bolt. Nothing seems to fit in the space available. Can anyone help? Thank you.

I think I used a socket on a long extension that put the ratchet out beyond the end of the starter.

Well, that certainly seems like a simple solution. Ill will try that. Sometimes I can't see the forest for the trees. Thanks for the suggestion.

Well, that didn't work. There is absolutely no room back there for anything. I think now that I will remove the solenoid. Perhaps that will give me the room I need.

I don't know how different yours is from mine, but I took the bottom bolt out first then used an open end wrench on the top nut. As you loosen the starter it slides out giving you the clearance to remove the nut. I don't know maybe yours is different.
