Nothing like getting rid of a solid truck for emissions, plastic, Styrofoam, computers, sensors and overall inferior Asian engineering.

Re: Sold my Soul

Funny how that work eh? I did almost the same thing this year, got my taxes back, and my mom told me she would loan me the difference for a "Reliable" truck, i initially said no i am putting the money into the trucks that will run forever. Then went and bought a 00'

Re: Sold my Soul

I love my 70, but I also like my 02. Great DD. Hope you like your 08. It stinks to have the loans, but having a nice truck it is sometimes worth it.

I am hoping that by the time the 02 becomes one that needs lots of tinkering, I will have the 70 I can use as a DD, then I can tinker on the 02.

I hear ya. Who wants more, better and reliable power? AND decent gas mileage. I mean who needs that???
I guess if you can't change your oil regularly and keep a truck tuned then emissions is a problem.
And if "computers, sensors and overall inferior Asian engineering" means 100k mile tune-ups, coolant that lasts up 100k, engines that last 200k+ while driving it like you enjoy driving than sign me up!

Re: Sold my Soul

Come on guys... there's nothing wrong with a newer truck, heck I have an '08 and absolutely love it.

I just got 19mpg last weekend so... I'm not complaining. Well on the other hand my '69 CST I6 250 just got 21mpg so yeah I'm complaining.

Re: Sold my Soul

Late model trucks have awesome powertrains and dependability. I just cannot stand the body design or the body quality of the 2007 later GM full sizers. GMC’s look alright, Chevy’s….not so good.

Look down the side of the bed from the tail light towards the cab and you will see two large stamping dimples that are very obvious. The front inner fenders are always hanging down below the fender and the doors do not have rocker panels to protect the bottom door edge. If you live in the salt belt the bottoms of the doors will be rusted within 5 years…..guaranteed. I saw a few durability test trucks at the Bosch Proving Grounds in South Bend, IN with rust growing on the bottoms of the doors that appeared before the simulated 5 year durability cycle.

I was on the Silverado Brand Team back in 1998 when I lived in Detroit when “The Truck” (GMT800 1999 Silverado) was launched. That was an exciting time. This new Silverado is doesn’t do a thing for me but piss me off every time I see what they did to it. They run great though! Congrats on your purchase.

See my signature…

Re: Sold my Soul

Why is it that every time that someone buys a new body silverado that someone always has to chime in and say how ugly they are? From what I can see is that no one asked if you liked there truck or not they where just proud of there new Chevy. Congrats on the purchase.

Re: Sold my Soul

Tiresmoke, I have sympathy. I bought my '87 1 1/2 years ago with the intent of using it as a daily driver. The first time I drove it the alternator went out, second time the transmission, then there were the leaks, and on and on. After all that downtime and GM's really good deals on trucks last summer I went and bought a red '08 also.

Nothing wrong with the old trucks, I had just forgotten that it's a real committment to drive them everyday.
