Put the board to use-Brake Problem 89 Sub

The brake warning light keeps coming on in my 89 Sub. We recently redid the brakes front and back. I checked for air in the lines and rebleed them, there was no air in the lines and the MC is full on both chambers. The light will go out if you stomp on the brakes while sitting still, but it comes back on when you stop suddenly or press hard on the pedal. Any ideas?

you SURE you got the air out of the lines? You can always disconnect that little connector @ the proportioning valve. Maybe the valve and/or sensor is bad

You still have air in the lines. You may need to bleed the MC before doing the lines. You also may have your rear adjusters out of wack. Tighten them up a bit and check it again.

There is no way to adjust them there are no holes on the backing plates of the rear brakes.

some vehicles have the adjuster access right on the front of the drum

If you don't want to knock out the plugs on the face of the drums, you cam manually adjust them until you can just slide the drums on. After everthing id assembed, drive the sub in reverse (5-6 mph) and firmly apply the brakes. This is how the adjusters work anyway. Get in the habit of using your brakes when you back up rathe rather than shifting to neutral then drive.

I always apply the brakes going into reverse and before shifting into drive. I think it would be fool hardy to do otherwise. When I replaced the rear brakes we did adjust them till the drums just slid on and I put in reverse and applied the brakes several times till I felt secure that the rear brakes were catching.
