bbc valve covers

need some advice on selection of fabricated aluminum bbc valve covers. 049 casting 454 heads and comp cams 1.72 magnum rockers. i have heard rockers conflict with some covers, but can't find specifics. also i see there is a wide range in price (from $50 to $500 for a pair). i am not picky on perfect appearance (i would even be ok with a good used driver set) and although i am looking to spend as little as possible, they need to be functional. any suggestions what to buy or avoid?

Re: bbc valve covers

Although I don't have fabricated VCs, I have run the Magnum Roller tips on the 396 and now the 7.4.

The 396 has the short, stamped steel VCs, heavier rubber type gaskets Magnums Comp lock nuts. The locknuts never would hold and had been replaced several times. I actually think I had studs that were meant for poly locks.

The 7.4 has the stock style cast aluminum VCs, Magnums and short poly locks. They work well so far in that they don't make contact with anything.

Just for curiosity's sake, why are you looking into fabbed VCs? Ive never used them. Are there some benefits?
