Re: I think I've decided on a build "theme"

My first round of purchased parts showed up today.

Some of the parts include a new gauge cluster with a 5000 rpm tach. A new tilt steering column for an automatic transmission, new vent windows and various patch panels as well as some other small parts.

Yay! As soon as I get some gas for my welder, I will be able to start replacing rusted parts.

Re: I think I've decided on a build "theme"

Not sure why the font is different. It isn't night and day but it is different.

The original looks like it's a little bit more bold.

Here they are side by side.

If you didn't get them today, I'd say tomorrow you should have some torsion boxes and end caps.

Re: I think I've decided on a build "theme"

No picture worthy updates.
I ordered the body bushing kit and it was on backorder for 3 weeks. It came in the other day so I opened it up yesterday so I could put the new radiator support back on so I could mount the fenders and then rehang the doors so I could get the tub correctly braced before I start cutting panels out. The full body bushing kit comes with everything BUT the nuts and bolts. I ordered those last night so, once those come in I hope to have a real update on my progress.

Re: I think I've decided on a build "theme"

I finally made a tiny bit of progress. Nothing has been easy so far. I purchased the entire brake system and the booster and master cylinder should be here tomorrow or Thursday.

The bolts holding the rear wheel cylinder on are, pretty much, not coming out. I'm going to take a grinder to them in the next few days. The brake hoses that NAPA gave me were the wrong hoses so I have to take them back tomorrow.

After all of that, I managed to get 1 front rotor, caliper, wheel bearing, seals and set of pads on today. I could have gotten the other side done but I spent about 45 minutes cleaning the spindle. It took a scraper and lots of scrubbing.

Here's the picture of my tiny bit of progress.

Re: I think I've decided on a build "theme"

I've gotten a few more parts in the last few days. My main focus right now is the brakes. My brake system is pretty well shot. I'm going through the entire system and replacing every part of the brakes. I've got all of the front lines and in the next day or so I'll get all of the rear lines. I continue to get my butt kicked by the bolts holding the passenger's side wheel cylinder on.

Here are a couple of pictures of some of the new and used parts.

Big block frame stands, clam shells and motor mounts. The frame stands and clamshells are courtesy of t korinek. I just spent the last 2 hours cleaning and degreasing them. I painted one side of them. I'll post a picture of them after they're cleaned up. The mounts are new from GMC Pauls.

I got a booster, master cylinder, proportioner valve and the front brake hoses from NAPA. I've already got the rotors caliper and new bearings and seals.

Re: I think I've decided on a build "theme"

Just use a 6 sided socket on the wheel cylinder bolts, tighten until they break off, which wont be much. Your tossing them anyway.

Re: I think I've decided on a build "theme"

I FINALLY got the rear wheel cylinder off and the rear brakes put back together. So far, I've got the passenger's side brakes complete with the exception of the hard lines.

Re: I think I've decided on a build "theme"

The long weekend was good for me and progress on the Blazer. I was able to get the engine and transmission out. I got the passenger's side brakes done. I got the booster and master cylinder off and I got the car spun around so I can work on the driver's side brakes.

Here's right after I pulled the engine and transmission. It was a mess.

Here's my helper after the engine and transmission were pulled.

Here's the Blazer after I spun it around on dollies. Hopefully, she won't end up on the Price is Right... I had to straighten up some.

Re: I think I've decided on a build "theme"

Yay! Drop spindles came in today. Tie rods (inner and outer) came in yesterday. Now all I need is time to start cleaning the frame up some and putting new parts on.
