No, the tube and flange does not have to be welded to the steering column shaft. It would be perfectly acceptable to drill thru both the tube and the shaft inside of it and install either a 1/4" or 5/16" grade 8 bolt.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

Does anyone have the pattern/template to install the power steering box in relation to the old holes? It would be nice to double check my work before I drill the holes. I would really appreciate it

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

My steering box adapter plate comes with a template to position the plate in the correct location.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

I know your plate is very nice just don't have the money right now. I already made a plate that places the box away from the frame and has the bolt hole layout of the box, just need to get it in the right position and drill my holes.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

If I were to use the adapter plate will I run into any issues not being able to fully turn to the right, will the tire hit the steering box? Will I have any issue adjusting the alignment?

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

Regardless whether you use my adapter plate, one of the others on the market or the one you make, the turn to the right will be less than the turn to the left. It is just the nature of the installation. This is easily corrected during an alignment. No the right tire will not hit the steering box unless you have a very wide wheel with a deep backspacing. This power steering conversion has been done successfully thousands of times.
