Silence! Whats the cure for tailgate rattle?

I've got my doors nice and tights and quite, now I'd like to silence the tailgate...kinda sounds like a huge truck coming down the road. Bumpy roads? forget it!
Anyone got any tips? I am pretty sure most or all the rattle comes from the side parts(name?) that support the tailgate(not chains but for some reason I'm brain is not working right now). I thought about covering them with some flexible shrink wrap of some sort but maybe you've got the answer.
Did they shake and rattle when new?

You should have some rubber bumpers that the tailgate supports tuck up against when it's closed. There are also a couple of bumpstops for the tailgate itself. You can get replacements from any of the vendors on the board. They get really hard with age. I replaced all of the rubber bumpers on mine and now it takes the bumpy dirt road to my house without much rattle at all. Before it was really painful!

I noticed that the rubber bumpers on mine are hard as rocks. I was wondering if there were intended to be softer. I think I need to replace them too.

Replace/install the square rubber bumbers about half way down the pillar.
The ones that screw in, not just push in. (about an inch square)

when closed, the gate supports will rest against them and not rattle.

Re: Silence! Whats the cure for tailgate rattle?

Well, The thread was still open and its never to late to introduce a new product. The product is only a year old and it's getting big reviews. Stainless steel trunnions and reduced rattle on the tailgates.
Thanks
