Re: Drop Dilemma

I'd be leery of 4.5 backspacing on a 4/6 or 5/7 especially with a big tire.
I usually like about 5.5 backspacing.
The front Boss wheels on my 98 have 5.25 and I wish they had more backspacing.

Re: Drop Dilemma

Here's my CCSB. 4/6 drop, wheels are 20x8.5 with 5.25" BS, tires are 255/45/20 front and 275/45/20 on the rear. Fender lips have been rolled. I have not had any issues with tire rubbing, and we have horrible roads here.

Re: Drop Dilemma

My original plan was a 2/4 drop and 255/45-295/45/20

Maybe I should just stick with that , but I just have a feeling I won't like it cause it's not low enough....I would be happy if my tires had about a 1" gap under my fenders . I like the low and wide look.

Re: Drop Dilemma

You know the real reason they call it a 2/4 drop right.... that's how many weeks until you want to go lower.

My daily is 2/4 from when it was my Dad's and it looks alright & rides great but I sure do wish it was lower too but I try to keep it more useable & not throw too much money at it.

I don't like the tire size on it so its going to get my 454ss wheels on it soon...

Ain't that the truth! Mine was 2/4 for maybe 3 months before I took it down to 5/8, where it stayed for nearly 5 years.

I was actually going to go with the wheels you are talking about but I didn't because of the backspacing and I knew I was going pretty low but it would be pretty close with a 4/6 drop.
Beautiful Truck! That's only a 3/4 drop? Looks lower. What did you use to lower it?

I only had the front fenders rolled back then (I just barely cut into the tire without them rolled) They were 18x8.5s all around so the rear fenders might be close to the tire with your 10in wheel but with a 3/5 drop, I think it could work.

Heres a pic with that setup, one inch lower in the rear would have looked nice.
well I just checked my wheel calculator and it seems the 255/55/18 and the 255/45/20 are identicle width and height wise and of course the 18" has a bit more sidewall.............

So now I wonder if I can fit a 295/45/20 with the 5" drop in the rear......

it looks like a 3/5 is the way to go due to BS and wanting a good sidewall.......

The last picture was 3/4. DJM parts, lower control arms on the front and shackles/hangers on the rear.

That's my vote. I think you'll be fine with that combo and your wheels.

, that's probably your best bet if you feel like you really want to go lower...i'm in the same boat with the backspacing on my BOSS wheels...luckily I don't have an issue, but they just don't fit how I want them to...plus I want a look that's more my style....gonna roll my old school Vette rallys for a while until I save up for some nice billets...if I'm gonna spend a chunk of money, might as well do it right with something I really want

When i was driving to Wally World today to go do some shopping ( in the wifes car ) i was rolling next to a not sure what year 88-98 SS ecsb that was dropped on 15's and it was soooooooooo clean and simple i fell in love.........

with the BS i have i cant get the drop i want with decent sidewalls.....

Maybe im paranoid but i don't want rubber band tires lol

This might have something to due with the fact im lifted now (4" spindle lift ) and the roads suck out here...........so sidewall is nice, last thing i want to do is bend a rim.... My friends truck is dropped 5/7 on Billet 20's and he has to keep a rubber mallet to keep bending his rim back in shape when he hits a pot hole..............Sucks

Yeah, I think 15's (even stockers) can still look good on this body style. I'm not ashamed to run them.

I totally understand & agree with you on the tire issue. I'll never run a rubber band tire. I'm glad the PO had similar tastes & went with a beefy tire on my Tahoe. I'm from MS originally, & the roads there suck in most instances. While a little nicer here, there are still numerous crappy roads as well. Even things as simple as the transition between road or road/bridge surfaces could screw up a nice wheel. On something I plan to drive, it's just not worth it to run a thin tire. I don't think they're attractive anyway. Then you also have to factor in the comfort you sacrifice to run such a tire.

Hope it all works out! I'll recommend the Belltech Street Performance shocks. I bought a set for my old S-10 when redoing the suspension. I liked them so much that I bought a set for my Tahoe last year. I considered Bilstein until figuring out that they don't have the correct size for the rear. I hear they're nice though. I've never run DJM shocks, so I can't vouch for them. I ran Doetsch Tech with my old '93 fullsize, & they were good shocks.
