Hey Memphis. Is this a high mileage truck? It may need the oil pan gasket replaced instead of the main seal. You will know for sure when you pull that flexplate off.
My 2000 is leaking oil and has been for a while. Most of the oil pan and bell housing stays wet. It marks it's territory at every stop. I initially thought main seal but now believe it's the pan gasket since it's wet from from to rear. It will be fixed when it warms up a bit more.
You may be able to pickup a used converter fairly cheap or a reman'd one if yours is messed up bad.

I am going to replace both, as well as the sending unit, that way I will know I covered the more common leak areas.

Yeah, I like this truck. I sold my low miles mint 89 camaro due to a funny noise 5 years ago., something as simple as flex plate bolts. huh, makes me wonder.
