99-2000 CrewCab SB-7.4

Anyone here have a 99-2000 GMC or Chevy Crew Cab, Short box ,4x4 with the 7.4?
What kind of MPG are you getting and what rear end ratio are you running?

I get 10-12. And I have 3.73. I bought this truck to haul people and pull my car trailer. It does both of those great. I did not buy it to get good mileage. That's what the s10 is for.

It doesn't make a difference. City/highway is gonna be about the same on these big block trucks.

Those trucks with have either 3.73 or 4.10 cogs.
They respond very well to a cam (214/221@.050) and headers. Cams are hydraulic roller and CHEAP. If you're looking into buying one, I'd consider replacing the injectors while you're at it, I've seen hydrolocked engines caused by leaky injectors.
The Gen6 is my favorite non-LS engine, I'm an official hoarder of 'em. I have had 3 that torque plate honed to .005 over and I found a slug of new SRP flat top forged pistons for $150/set. That makes for an inexpensive rebuild that will last longer than the truck. I have one on the stand at my shop that'll have a Scat cast stroker crank, plan to use it in my tow rig.
And these guys are right, in and out of town, towing or empty, a 454's mileage doesn't vary much.
It is possible to convert these to the 411PCM, same as is used by LS engines fairly easily. That means a lot more tuning flexibility, even to the point of tuning on a dyno.
