budget 65 farm truck
i figured id start a build thread on my 65 if for no other reason so i can look back and see that i am actually making some progress, started out by yankin the 283 and the 4 speed out, had a broken coil in front so i cut them both down to the same length, waiting to get a turbo 350 from a buddy of mine, waiting for him to pull the motor out so i can get to what i need, found a set of fenders and got em hammered out and welded patch panels in that i cut from my original fenders, right now im just doing alot of grinding and cleaning waiting for my next paycheck so i can get something else done

More progress would be nice but work has a problem of cutting into my time. weather permitting ill dig in where i left off in the morning. as soon as i get my tranny im yankin the motor out of my 78 since i cant seem to sell it. then the real fun starts. gotta get my measurements so i can fab up a crossmember for the automatic

Looks good man. I know the feeling, waiting for the next paycheck. Grinding and sanding is free, in most respects, and fills the time. lol. Good luck with it. This site is a wealth of information and when ur feeling frustrated with it, just log on and you will get that 2nd wind to get back at it.

got my lowering blocks built for the rear last night. i used 3 inch box tube 3/8 inch wall cut into 7 inch lengths and used 1/4 inch plating to box the tubes in. just gotta find the measurement for the new u bolts so on payday i can get them bolted in. its not much but progress is still progress

Just use the one out of the '78. It fits the frame just fine. You'll just have to drill holes in the frame to bolt it in.

got a turbo 350 from a friend of mine today to use for mockup so i can get my crossmember fabbed up. think im gonna pull the 350 and new exhaust out of my 78 and drop it in the 65. half tempted to start selling the 4wd parts off for much needed funding i need to get the truck on the road. depending on the size of my check i should be able to pick up my new turbo 350 and itll only be a matter of time before i take her out for a test drive. im gettin so close i can almost feel it

got my drop blocks put in, waiting on the new bolts, for now i just installed the original u bolts from the bottom and left the shock brackets hanging, at least its off the jackstands and i can roll it again, gotta figure out whats hanging me up because im about an inch and a half higher on the passenger side, i think its in the old springs? one piece at a time, ill get done eventually

got my 4 speed set back in the truck. waiting on my new hardware to bolt it in. as soon as thats done i can get my 350 set into place. slowly but surely gettin something done

waiting for monday so i can pick up my check. in the mean while i got my set of junk yard doors bolted on and lined up. get pics up as soon as i can get to a computer. orange cab with gold doors. im sure the neighbors r getting tired of me out here workin on it. if there annoyed now wait till i get the motor and exhaust put in. if it rattles street signs in my 78 it ought to do nicely in the 65

pulled the 350 out of m 78 and got it bolted in this weekend, trying to figure out what exhaust to use. the factory 78 mounts hit on the 65 engine mounts, and the headers i have are in the way for the clutch linkage, trying to use the original 283 mounts but they dont want to line up to the head on the passenger side, any ideas?

well the motors done. still working on wiring, i can get it to fire up but still no head/tail lights, towed it down to the high school this weekend and did a few laps in the parking lot and when the coast was clear it was balls to the wall down the backroads back to my place, got my 65 shortbox back from my buddy and got it put back together, drove it to work the back way this morning and the fuel system crapped out on the way to lunch, but at least there both running, somewhat

going backwards now. beds off. cut the rear springs out. motor and tranny are pulled. got a turbo 350 ready to go in. frame is getting cleaned up and ready for the c-notch. let my girl dig into the 65 swb fleetside. welding up patch panels for her right now. pics to come soon

few updated pics, 4 speed cross member cut out last night, drop the e brake member and i can start mocking up for the automatic, got my girl working on the short box, its coming slowly just gotta keep peeling off layers of bondo

made it out to the garage and was heartbroken by how my truck was looking so i did a lil spring cleaning and shes ready for me to get back to work, with the weather looking up i should be able to start really digging in

who needs goggles? shes my ex anyway. she said she wanted to learn so i picked the best parts out of the leftover pile so that she could learn the work that goes into building a truck. she showed potential but she was to busy screwin around on me while i was at work. oh well. at least i can focuss on my favorite girl now
