Got a new truck

It's a yellow 69 short stepside 1/2ton 4x4. some rust but it will be my wheeling rig. And my other truck is in the process of being fixed the gear and axle place guy said he hasn't seen a 203 with the style rear output housing that mine has so it maybe a while for that. But back to my new truck, 4speed sm465 granny low, unknown gear ratio, np205 tcase. Needs motor but will have that in it this weekend or next week.

Re: Got a new truck

What are the plans for building into a wheeling ride?

Mild dirt road riding kinda wheeling or leaning towards wild 'need a cage' kind of fun?

Re: Got a new truck

cage is a must and will be built within weeks but it will be pretty much a full wheeler once we get a trailer. But leanin towards 33 maybe 35 because its a 1/2ton. Untill a get a d60/14 combo then trying to get some 44s. And a winch will be on before winter hopefully.

Re: Got a new truck

44's are pushing the limits of that D60/14bff combo, truth be known.

A set of Dedenbear (now REID) knuckles, some 4340 alloy axles shafts w/super duty u-joints in that D60 will add a lot of strength and mainly will add more durability to getcha home.

Here's a great place to find all that stuff, ask for Doug, he's a great guy to deal with.
http://extremeaxlesales.com/contact-us.aspx

Then there's the one ton drive lines and joints you'll be needing...

Re: Got a new truck

yea i know that 44s will be on the limit but, i feel that it will be light enough that i will just need different knuckles, and 1 ton drives will be a must but they don't always hold up to as seen the this video. my uncles ford broke the cv joint in the front of the rear line, the bushing in the center of the rear and the front twisted.

ok, no to insult your uncle but when you are acting like Bigfoot you pay the price for not being Bigfoot!

If anyone on here knows extreme wheeling it's vtblazer...

Re: Got a new truck

he knows he was glad that he broke it now, because he knows he will need stronger drivelines for truck pulls. He also thinks the rear axle maybe blown if thats the case he will be getting 4.88s which is also something hes been wanting.

And i always see vtblazer poping up with tech for hardcore wheeling.

Re: Got a new truck

i took off the doors, pressure washed the truck, got my motor from the parts truck out, was going to put it in right then and couldn't firgure the motor mount brackets out. But i think i have it fgured out thanks to someone here on another thread, but am still wondering about if the plastic mount on the motor are different from 2wd to 4wd. But, on monday i will try to put it in then, i have a list.
Put motor in
Take off bed
Get it running
Buy some dom and airshocks
Build roll cage and 4link
Get a rear driveline

I'm trying to get the airshocks at the same time as the dom so i can cut the frame then build the shock mounts for the 4link into the cage shorting the wb a little and get a great departure angle. And making it a lot lighter.

Re: Got a new truck

picked up a 14bolt for this and a d44 to fix my other truck, going next wekend to pick up a d60 or d70 frontend bigger than most d60s i have seen its a closed knuckle the only down side but its really really really cheap. And 2 military 1ton five lugs. And my dad roll the exploder on its side but we made it home and me and my friend were fine but my dad messed up his hand and had a bloody nose but everyone was safe.

pics in a few minutes.

Re: Got a new truck

I think if i finish my white truck that i will just use the 2wd motor mount stuff and custom make a x-member because I have really been wanting to go wheeling, and the motor is the main part slowing me down on this one And money But mainly the motor because i have most the stuff to build it.

Re: Got a new truck

well last night i picked up the closed knuckle d60 going to see about getting a disc brake kit for it, it was free and its a lot better than a closed knuckle drum brake half ton, still going to get a open knuckle in the future. I got the motor almost put in then realized i didn't have the motor mount on one side or the spare motor mount for my other truck in my other truck so it will be in tomarrow. Then going to install the front this week most likey. And get the bed off soon.
