4x4 dash stickers

Did 4x4 dash decals come on 72 pickups? I like the looks of them but I only see them listed as blazer and suburban. I want one in my 72 k20 auto but don't want called out on it. It's been repainted so I don't know if it had one from the factory

Re: 4x4 dash stickers

I think they all had them, but the location varies quite a but. I have seen them on glovebox doors, on the roof between the visors, and even on a visor once.
I think 72 would be on the glove box door, but see if anyone can confirm.

Re: 4x4 dash stickers

I've had mostly 71 or 72 K/20s, as well as some K/10s and K/5s, and never had one with a shift pattern sticker. I don't believe they came with them. The years that did, had them in the glovebox packet and they were placed where ever they were desired. I've also probably looked at 1,000 or more that I didn't own that didn't have them. I think any 71/72 that as a sticker is one an owner bought and placed.

Figure in '70, the first year the NP205 was available across the board, there were those unique shifters that came with a plain knob that you wouldn't be able to read very well due to the way they bend. GM probably used them through '70 for that reason.

Re: 4x4 dash stickers

I think tim is onto something here. My 71-72s don't have any stickers, but my earlier ones do. (not all.) My 70 blazer has the pattern on the ring around the shifter on the floor. After 70, the pattern was on the knob for the 205s.

Special k is right on this the few 71 and 72 that I have seen stickers on were all in different areas being roof or glove box door. Also the early one used these stickers due to poor vision of shift position due to handle placement. I believe this is also the case with the no spin differental sticker as my 68 k20 is on the left side of dash sideways by steering column

Re: 4x4 dash stickers

My gear pattern is engraved into the shift knob.
I don't see any evidence my '72 Suburban ever had a sticker.

If it was there, I don't think the previous owner would have removed it.

Re: 4x4 dash stickers

Sounds to me like an excellent excuse to buy an older one and still keep your 72. If all else fails blame it on peer pressure. Just make sure you keep us posted on how that works out

I'm so sorry to hear this. I hope someone will want to buy your '72 since it didn't come with that sticker. The pre-71s are much more desirable for just that reason...people gotta have that sticker. The ones with it placed in the center of the roof seem to bring the most money since that's such a stupid place to put one

I once saw a '72 someone had put a disc brake decal on the tailgate! Heaven forbid!!

Re: 4x4 dash stickers

Mine is on the glove compartment door. I think the original owner must have gotten the sticker when the vehicle was purchased and stuck it on. It could have been the dealer, but I doubt it. The sticker is stuck on crooked! That has always bugged me! Here's a crappy pic but you can see it's crooked.
