4x4 is not 4x4ing

So I have a 1971 C20 4x4 w/ 4speed. I never had it in 4wheel drive. I can get it in 4 low, neutral, but I am not sure about 4 high or 2 high as I can only find one position below neutral. ALso I noted that the drive shaft moves no matter where the shifter is placed. Should the front drive shaft move no matter what?

Has newer generation Warn hubs.

From my understandings, if your front hubs are locked in, your axle will turn. Trying unlocking them, then put in 2wd and see if they turn.

:warning: I am new to 4x4 also, so my info may be wrong

I am not sure which transfer case is in it. Where there more than one? The front shaft turns with the hubs locked and unlocked

Sounds like bad hubs to me, do you have the Spicer hubs with the plastic handle? They are known for the plastic getting chewed up and not working properly.

Your truck is 40+ years old. No telling what transfer case is in it anymore.

Re: 4x4 is not 4x4ing

best thing for this thread, is for you to crawl under you rig and take a picture of the transfer case for all of us to see. Same thing regarding your hubs, take a picture of those for us as well.

Otherwise it is nothing but guessing.
