Step side won’t start
Cold weather truck wouldn’t start so I jumped it everything was fine. Came back later for one last check before bedtime and wouldn’t start. Tried jumping it again and smoke came from wires near master cylinder I think they are connected to starter solinoid. Just not sure. Installed new battery didn’t work. Did I fry something? Guy at auto store didn’t think it was starter.

Just to the left of the circle in your picture, is the fusable link, a fuse that looks like a piece of wire, when those buen they do smoke and your truck wont start if its burned

Re: Step side won’t start
That fusible link burned for a reason. Check all the wires in your starting system for rust and tightness. This includes the battery connections, starter connections, solenoid connections and the grounds under your dash.
I would suspect the connections at the starter because these are hard to see and really close together, it would easy for a wire to fray and short to ground or power and burn that fusible link.
