Re: Our Winter so far....Jan 2019

I don't think there has been any weather we haven't had this winter. No blizzards... except for that 15 minute total white out sideways squall at 50 mph... and no extreme heat... unless you figure 70 in January as hot. No drought either. With last year's record rainfall and so far above average this tear, when we got a few days of single digit nights and teens all day the ground froze deep and hard. Then 40s to 50s to 60s in three days made for some super soft ground. A tire running off the edge of the road made for a mud splash across the road and all over the windshield and entire vehicle like a mud bogger. That patch of road would be coated with a solid layer. A fuddy muckin fess! A spot in my driveway is a bottomless pit of mud. I started with dumping 2" stone, gone! I've been pulling brick size rock from the creek by the wheelbarrow load and it squished right on down, too. If it were asphalt it would be toast by now. This past week and into next any precip we get is, depending on how far north or south in our tiny state you are, we've been getting snow, then mix with rain, then sleet, then freezing rain, more show or rain, maybe sleet or freezing rain again. Fickle as a fly!

Hardly any snow Nov-Dec. Jan-Feb, we've been getting snowed on like once or twice a week. One time it will be 1-3" then the next time will be 6-12". Suppose to get maybe 3-6" Wednesday. The 85 K5 is getting a work out plowing the driveway.

How much freezing rain, sleet, or cold rain in the 40s?

Northern Nevada weather has really changed, though by some measure it's seems more like the old days (pre-90s). That said, we did receive a record amount of water 2 years ago. We've had well more than average precip. three years straight, and this is the first year in ages we didn't have 2 weeks of sunshine dutring the month of February.

Re: Our Winter so far....Jan 2019

...well we went from having 8-10" worth of instant snow last week....to about 1" left in a few places...as the melt continues in our now plus temps.
All of this should be gone in about a day or two...then back to the ol' West Coast Rain forest lifestyle, lol.
That is probably our novelty snow for the year right there...

Yesterday we had 6" of snow. Today..... blue skies It was warm enough to melt most of the snow. That looks like a decent 3" sticky snow there Paul.

Looks like a mess.

Here is last night's weather report. Our reports can get quite "detailed" and this shows an example of how our weather varies greatly

Re: Our Winter so far....Jan 2019

I don't know what our official snow fall total is this winter but this is mostly all since Christmas. If you look closely to the left of the fire hydrant you can barely see the flag on the mailbox sticking up in the air. Hard to judge the depth in the pictures but the snow along my driveway is piled over 6 foot tall. My neighbors across the alley old square body Chevy looks like it came with the super rare tall cab option! Looks like we are to get another 3-6" tonight and tomorrow, then again on Monday, and Thursday, and ...IS IT SPRING YET!!!!

Now that's a real snow for anywhere. That ought to add another month to the season for the Snow Bowl. I saw on that weather report I posted the S/W was getting snow or rain, depending. Same storm will be a blizzard in the mid-west. Strong southern front will keep it from us and we get rain all day tomorrow. 60s on Sunday, but later next week some snow. A real potpourri of weather.
