Question on C20 front disc brake spindles

I just purchased a 1967 C20 and am thinking of building it into a driver. I would like to switch it to disc brake front spindles and wondered if they will interchange with a 71 C20 and up disc brake spindle like the C10's interchange?
Also, what else would I need to do / use to make that work on my 67? Such as do I need different steering linkage / linkage parts, ball joints, etc.?

Thanks, Jay

Re: Question on C20 front disc brake spindles

I just swapped a bunch of disk stuff on my truck. I believe if you have 71-72 spindles and disk set up you should be able to swap it right in ball joint to ball joint. same steering linkage That said you will need a newer master cylinder also the proper one to go with 71-72 disk brakes. You probably need the right power booster too and I'm not sure about the proportioning valve. It is also my understanding that a complete setup from 73-87 everything ball joints out will also bolt on. I just bolted a disk setup from a 78 C 30 onto my 71C20. other than rerouting the brake line a bit it was a direct bolt on. I kept same a arms , ball joints and tie rod ends and swapped everything else. Spindles calipers and rotors. My truck already had disk brakes but my end game was to get the bigger calipers and rotors as well as get the extended centers to run the Bud wheels in front . Somebody more knowledgeable will chime in and tell you the other things you need for sure to complete the disk conversion as far as master booster and prop valve.

If you get everything from the a-arms out from a donor truck get the steering linkage also.

I believe a 73 completely set up should work to my understanding. . I'm just running a 73 power steering gear box and centerlink. In my 71.

Yeah as lowlife99 said whatever you go with get the A-arms out or if you find a 71-72 donor the whole crossmember will bolt right in. I lucked out and got a whole 72 crossmember for $50 and the guy loaded it with his tractor. Blasted, painted and installed it and just got new pads and rotors from AutoZone.

Rubber brake lines weren't available locally so I got these off ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/71-72-Chevy-...item2ec7c35b43. They fit correctly on the crossmember connection and matched the length of the old ones that were on mine.

You will need the booster and master cylinder and proportioning valve from a drum in back and disk up front truck. The po of my truck didn't.... My brakes feel a lot safer now after fixing it all.

Re: Question on C20 front disc brake spindles

Good point. Fyi, not sure if you have the Dana rear but if you want to make sure your lugs are all matching you can swap hubs with the 71-72 versions. For some reason the parts yards don't list them as Dana 60 hubs but rather HUB REAR 20 SERIES NON-REMOVABLE CARRIER part number 538.

Re: Question on C20 front disc brake spindles

Thanks for all the great help and suggestions! I think I have a whole setup purchased and will pick it up this Friday. Paid more than $50, but don't think I got robbed. I'll let you know how I come out. Jay
