91 Jimmy top removal.

Does anyone know if the back of the top was glued on from the factory? I got a 91 jimmy that looks like the top has never been removed, I know the last couple of years they had the seat belt harness secured up in the top and no ware in the owners manual do they say anything about taking the top off.

I got all the bolts out but the entire top feels like its glued on with like a double back tape or something. Did they really not intend for it to come off the last year?

Thanks, I want to go topless tomorrow.

Re: 91 Jimmy top removal.

I don't think it was different but a valid question with the seatbelts changed in rear for 90 and 91. If it's not been off, I think it's going to be a little tough to get it off. Might take a bit of work. But I do see a 91' topper for sale locally, so I do know they come off.

When you take it off, there are some alignment pins in the back. So you will need to lift the back up first to clear those pins, then it will pull away from the cab, secondly.

If you can zoom in, you can see one of the pins sticking up in the back (on top).

Thanks Ski. I had a 79 that had the pins. Don't know how much pressure I can put on the top and not mess anything up. But i'll work it some more.

Re: 91 Jimmy top removal. Update!

Don't know about other years but in 1991 they really did not want you to take the top off.

There are no pins in the back like most Blazers and Jimmy, instead you have to remove the inter panel from the inside of the bed, reach up in the area of where the pins should be and remove a 9/16 bolt that is locking the top down. then it can come off like a normal top.

From the factory, there are two bolts behind the side panels that go up through the bedrails and into the top. They are at the very back of the bedrails, behind those alignment pins. If the tops never been off you'll have to remove those.

I missed that you found them. Weird that the alignment pins were gone. There are so many bolts holding the top down, most owners threw away the two hidden bolts and never bothered with them after initial removal.

Was this on the 89 and older ones too?

Re: 91 Jimmy top removal.

They were on an '83 I had. It would be interesting to see if they're on a full-vert top.
