Good heads on a 283/305/307, but a little small on the valves/runners on the larger sb mills..... L

Are these the 74-76 262 monza heads-- I ran them on a 283 -- I believe it lowered compression on my 283 to around 9-1. They have the hardened valve seats for unleaded.

Re: sbc #434 heads any good?

They should be the same comp ratio on a 283, as the old "520" casting was (60cc power pac head). the old 4 brl 283's didnt run too bad L

I was thinking about using them on a mild 350 but sounds like I should keep looking...

They actually work great on MILD 350, if that's what you want. I would avoid them with flat-top pistons though. You'll have a hard time running them with today's junk pump gas. I have built several 350's with 305 heads (#416 and #434 castings usually) and they are very torquey. They usually have 1.72 or 1.84 intake valves and 1.50 exhaust. This makes great low end throttle response, but hurts upper end RPM, if that's what you want. I put a set of '71 Impala for a customer recently with stock 4 bbl and headers and it made a ton of difference in how the car ran. The #478 heads that came off the engine are some of the best flowing open chamber heads there are (along with #441's), and flow much better than #416's I put on it, the but the 76cc chambers with dished pistons were killing it! Aerohead sells 305 heads with the combustion chambers cut to 64cc, with 1.94 or 2.02 valves ready to run for around $500. Here's their info if you are interested.
