Glazing putty thickness?
How thick can Glazing putty be applied before you should just get the regular bondo filler? I'm guessing some of the voids i have may be a little over 1/16 but i'm sure not much over that.
Filling the voids around my new gas flip door and some other dents in the surrounding area. Thanks!

Re: Glazing putty thickness?
Anytime it is going over welds, I use a short strand fiber strand. It is a chopped glass [as in fiberglass] product and it is closer to water tight than any of the filler base stuff. If your assured of no pinholes and are confident of that I'd go regular filler for at least the first wipe on there. Your stretching over the limits that was designed into that putty when it was made up I feel. Are you using a two part putty that mixes like body filler? I use some by Evercoat and it is Polyester glazing putty [2 part] and man is it some good stuff. It goes on good and sands like butter. I really think you'd be better off wiping that with regular filler fresh 80 grit on a block cut it down real quick change to 120 hit it again then go with the 2 part putty then high build block it and high build again. Re: Glazing putty thickness?
Don't us it. This is old technology and is only designed to fill the smallest imperfection. It has not been used in body shops for 20 years. Use a 2 part glaze, but only as a topcoat once you have finished your filler work.

Re: Glazing putty thickness?
This is what my local auto body supply had in stock. different names but i believe its all the same stuff, if any reservations please let me know.
Also curious, what is the base of this primer? lacquer or enamel? What i did forget is what to wipe the bed down with before i start, some kind of grease and wax remover? do i need some kind of tack cloths?

Re: Glazing putty thickness?
Here is the "Basics of Basics" to plastic filler ("Bondo") that I have used for years. Print it out and read it a few times, it has helped a lot of people.

Here are all the "Basics of Basics" Len has posted over at the Autobodystore.com. There are others he hasn't posted around on the net as well that may be of use, let me know if there is something else you are thinking about. http://www.autobodystore.com/martinsr.shtml Brian
