Heater\Air duct box help

I bought the AC parts (in boxes) from a guy to put in my non-ac cab 72 c10. When I go to connect the outer Heater box that mounts under the dash to the Air Duct selector box, it does not match up very well. Is there some kind of narrow spacer that goes between the two that I am missing or should the two just bolt together?

Thanks for the quick response & information. I live in KC area and know LMC all to well I have that but it does not show a good representation of that. Going to see if I can find someone that has one I can look at. Thanks again

Andy436, I have that same PDF document. If you look at “HEATER AND AIR CONDITIONING 1A-32”. “Fig. 39—Heater and Ducts” it has another breakout and appears to show a thin square piece that goes between the “heater core and distributor assembly” and the Air Duct selector box (which in the picture diagram you provided is labeled as “to right of dash outlet”, “To left of dash outlet” and “to center dash outlet” It with where the two items join together.
If I align the holes together for them to “bolt up” then the opening does not match up exactly.

My 71 has no such piece. The one slides into the other one and only has screws in one side if I remember correctly.

Doesn't the Non A/C Cab have a very different set of holes (in size, shape and positioning) in the firewall? I'm sure it was that way in 1970 but I don't know the later years.. I think you need a template and will need to cut some areas and maybe plug others. Maybe best to get an actual A/C firewall but I'd be surprised if anyone went that far..

Literally, you're attaching the air duct to the heater box:

Duct Air Selector - Box 3:

Mounting the Duct Air Selector Mount the unit to the Heater Box using two 5/16" head tapered screws. The annex portion of the unit inserts into the metal bracket fixed on the Heater Box.

Cable Routing The cable for Box 3 was seated below the cable for Box 1. Not much else to this when mounted.

Mounting the Cable See Box 1 for attaching the wire to the lever. Only difference is when the unit is in a mounting position, the cable should be positioned below the plate on the unit for mounting the cable bracket (i.e., the wire wraps clockwise).

A/C Compressor Clutch Switch (button): The switch mounts to Box 3 using two 5/16" head tapered screws. This triggers the A/C when the lever pushes the switch button, where the A/C heater control is set to COLD.
Tee Adaptor. The adaptor fits on top of Box 3. The duct tube faces the LH (TS).

Nothing else to it on my 71. By chance your heater box isn't right?

Reviving a fairly old thread, I have a couple questions. First of all, my truck is clearly a factory air-conditioned truck, but I have no center vent outlet for the air-conditioning in the middle of the dash. I do, however have the two side vents. What gives? Is that normal?

Secondly, does the duct flow selector box amount to anything other than the heater box? Seems like everything is just floating under my dash.

Gromit is right. When I converted my 68 to A/C I had to block portions of the fire wall and I believe cut other portions. I also think I had to drill some mounting holes through the fire wall as well. Nothing was between the two pieces except the fire wall. I have pictures but Can't upload. Your truck should have the center vent with factory A/C. dash may have been replaced or cab was replaced or fake spid.

If you remove the inner / outer boxes you can tell if the A/C was added. Different holes than heater only. You can also look on the inside the dash for repair welds.

The inner box is supported in the center with a screw though the fire wall just above the center heater outlet. Have some pics at work, will post later.

Just replaced heater core. It’s definitely factory AC, based on the firewall.
