Buddy just got a '72 C10... With Leaf springs??

My buddy just picked up a '72 C10, and it's got leaf springs, not coils.
6-lug, so it isn't a 3/4-ton with the wrong badges on it.

I know this is light on information, but any idea what he's got?

72 C10 should be five lugs. And you can get the Chevys with leafs. I had a 69 C10 with leafs (and six lugs).

Who knows what has been possibly changed in those 47 years? Take a look at the SPID to see what the cab came with.

Re: Buddy just got a '72 C10... With Leaf springs??

I'd say he has a mismatch of parts. Starting in 71 all 1/2 tons were 5 lug. Leaf springs were optional. So the 6 lug wheels could indicate it has a pre 71 frame and/or suspension. It brings up a number of questions, if he cares to know.

Does the cab #s match the frame #s? Could have been a cab swap

Re: Buddy just got a '72 C10... With Leaf springs??

It's a little dark to take pics, but the truck is 5 lug (Brad helped me pick it up from northern Tennessee).

I'll take some pics this weekend and get a thread started- been doing as much reading/research as I can over the pas week on what to replace or update, but it has:

-non power steering
-non power disc brakes
-later 305 with 3 on the tree (tranny has a floor shift kit on it)

I need to get this on the road as quickly as possible, so I'm hoping to replace the brake parts, upgrade to power steering, and get the engine/tranny in.

Will also need to do something about the seating- I'm 6'6" and need to get the seats a little lower/further back, and will also need to replace the tank... will probably move it to the under the back of the bed.

Re: Buddy just got a '72 C10... With Leaf springs??

just to follow up on original question above, Chevs came standard with coils on both C10 and C20s. Leafs were optional on both. GMC came standard with leaf rear on at least the 3/4 tons (don't recall standard rear susp on 1/2 ton GMCs)

Moving the tank to the rear wont give you any more room if that was the goal. Put your seat all the way back and see that it hits the back of the cab not the tank.

I believe someone makes mounts that brings the seat down an inch or two, and you can collapse part of the column to get a little more room.
