Does the thin section of the lower tailgate trim face up or down?

The upper trim has the same thin ridge and it faces down as made obvious by the center piece over the latch handle (only one way it can go) and it follows the tail light bezels. I see pictures all over the web with the lower trim both ways or maybe the reflections are tricking me...which way is it meant to be?

Possible original tailgate I have they both have the bump facing down. I think the tail light bezels line up that way.
