Hood latch mechanism

I replaced the old work hood latch mechanism with a replacement from LMC.

The replacement mechanism is working but I'm not sure I trust it.

The lever that you actuate with your hand is resting against the back top "rib" on the grille. I think the lever is about 20-30% actuated in this position and it can't be moved or placed without the lever resting against the grille.

The part that locks in the hood seems to be in it's closed position but with the lever that you operate with the hand doesn't. It worries me that the hood could release suddenly if I hit a bump.

I didn't order the part, my friend did and he told me that LMC listed this as the correct part for a 72 k5 blazer. I have a 72 GMC Jimmy.

I looked around on the websites I usually like to order from, GMC Paul and California truck shop and neither has a GMC specific hood latch mechanism.
Any advice or recommendations on where I can source a correct latch?

Pics as good as I could take them below.

Re: Hood latch mechanism

Consider having your original black phosphate re-coated. It will look brand new and function well. I’ve done the same with my trucks and have been really pleased.

Re: Hood latch mechanism

I think the original mechanism is misplaced or lost. That's why my buddy got a replacement without telling me about it (he tried to sneak it in). I suspect he misplaced it....

So any good repro you know of?

Re: Hood latch mechanism

GMC latch is different from Chevy. The GMC has an offset release handle to get around the vertical center bar on the GMC grill.

This picture is of a GMC Latch

This is the Chevy latch, it might be hitting the vertical center bar on the grill not allowing it to close completely. I can take a look to see if I have an extra GMC latch

Re: Hood latch mechanism

I'm going to buy the ebay latch. Can't find mine. The guy is located literally 5 miles from me. I just sent him an email since he charges more for shipping than for the latch...

Thanks for the advice all, super appreciated.

Re: Hood latch mechanism

Got the latch. The eBay seller was just a few miles from me so I went to his place and picked up the latch there. He had two, this was the nicer of them. 15 bucks. Worth it imho.

Re: Hood latch mechanism

Took a pic inside his warehouse. A treasure trove of old car parts, mostly GM.
