Exhaust issues

I am kind of new to the world of small block chevrolets, at least as far as working on them. I have an older 350 in my suburban, it has the drivers side dipstick and some mid 70's exhaust manifolds to clear it. I am wondering if I can put the stock 85 manifolds back on it and run a lokar dipstick or something to clear the manifolds?, or what my options are. I would run what I have but both manifolds have an ear broke off where a stud would go through. I already have manifolds off of my '86 C10 I had, just trying to do this exhaust on the cheap.

Re: Exhaust issues

they should work cause they didnt change the dipstick location on 350s till 87 when the tbis came out but it should work as long as they arent 305 maniflolds cause 305s had there dipsticks on the passenger side and 350s on drivers side until 87

Re: Exhaust issues

thanks for the info, yes the manifolds I have from my '86 C10 are from a 305, thus being from a passenger side dipstick sbc. Am I better off leaving the stock dipstick in place and getting a set of mid 70's manifolds to replace my broken ones?

Re: Exhaust issues

i would just go to a junk yard and find some or find one for the drivers side that was on the 350 and use one 305 and one 350

Re: Exhaust issues

just bend it out of the way a bit.. as long as your rings aren't shot it should stay in there pretty well.

oh and btb.. 350's had RH dips long before it changed over to 1 pc rears. around '80 they changed iirc.

Yeah, i've tried the whole bending/cutting deal and am just frustrated with it. I cannot get them to seal at all, I think I am going to take it to an exhaust shop and have them make a new y-pipe. I would buy a replacement y-pipe but the stock ones just hang too low for my liking. That and I am not a fan of headers, or at least long tubes.
