Used to be an 84 3+3 one ton dually long bed, now 3+3 1/2 ton short bed single rear wheel truck project. Having a blast with this one.

Nice looking truck, is there a build thread for it?

Re: How about some pics of '73-'87 Crew Cabs Part II

So I decided to go with some fender trimming and a 2" add a leaf up front, and sold the lift kit. I am looking to put a locked 60 up front soon, I dont think the stock locked 44 will last with the 37s. The sm465 and 205 still has me revving to high at highway speed for my taste and the 454 is a gasaholic, so I'm going to regear and repaint the camo in the spring. This is my dedicated hunting rig so there are some overland style plans for the future such as a full safari rack with lights up top and a custom built camper shell with an integral pop out tent from the sides. My wifes dad said "oooh that would make a good wood cutting truck!" no...no it wont...

Re: How about some pics of '73-'87 Crew Cabs Part II

Found a donor for my 4x4 swap. 1978 1 ton 3+3 350/th350 gears unknown. I got it for $500 and it runs! Just has a messed up tire and the tie rod sleeve is broken..

I have got a lot of research to do though before I start this body swap.

Re: How about some pics of '73-'87 Crew Cabs Part II

I just closed the deal on an 85 K30 3+3 last night. I thought my first post on this forum should include the first square body I have owned in over 20 Years. My first vehicle was a 79 1/2 ton and I have wanted another square body since the day I sold it. This one is in need of a little TLC, but what 30 year old truck isn't.

The main reason I need this thing is to drag my Jeep Around.

Did you do the cummins swap on it? If so, any advice because I am about to do the same.

Re: How about some pics of '73-'87 Crew Cabs Part II

I am about to do a 24v cummins swap. Don't know what I am doing but will learn as I go. Any advice is greatly appreciate. Need advice on:
Which radiator should I use
Which intercooler should I use
Which lift pump should I use
What all connects are needed from engine to tranny
Does someone make a prefab'd tranny crossmember for tranny
What diameter fuel line should I go with

I sure there are a million other and will come up as I go.

Thanks,

Joaquin

Re: How about some pics of '73-'87 Crew Cabs Part II

Looks good 84Beast. They are a lot of folks that have done the cummins swap on here, give it a search I am sure you can find a lot of good information! I am surprised you can get away with doing that swap in CA though.

I am going to be doing a 6.5 Turbo Diesel swap in my 1 Ton Crew Cab 4x4 soon, I haven't found a lot of people with threads on doing that.

It's originally diesel so no smog. Took me a long time to find this truck. had a few 2wd dually diesels, but this was the first k10 single wheel diesel that I was able to find. Someone thru a 454 along the way.
