6.2L Advice

Folks if anyone has experience with the 6.2L I would appreciate advice. Its a 2011 GMC Yukon Denali I bought new. I posted the thread to the 07+ board but I thought I would open it up to a wider audience. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=665845

I am here in this section because I know about 67-72 GM Trucks. I thought this might be a question on the 6.2L diesel some people swap, which I also have a lot of experience/knowledge on. They went and reused this engine displacement for a gas motor. I'll have to watch out for that now. Never had anything newer than '95 and know about nothing about anything so new. I buy stuff that new so I don't have to work on it

I just rolled 48,000 on my 2008. I've never noticed the piston slap on mine. My buddy had a 2007 he bought and he had it. Not really sure what they did to fix it. I will ask if he remembers.

My 5.3 has had the piston slap issue for well over the last 100,000 miles. With 175,000 on it now, I don't even worry about it. It's just something they do. So, hopefully its not a big deal for the 6.2 either.

The main problem with that model is the lifter retainers breaking causing lifters to rotate in the lifter bore. Good for HYD lifters bad for rollers. Jim

I don't think he is referring to the 6.2L diesel engine, I believe he is talking about the L92 6.2L LS3 style that is in his Denali.

The oil pump pressure regulator valve could be stuck open, I have seen this once before on a 408 (Stroked 6.0L). This is the only oil pump failure I have seen on any LS engine. Gerotor pumps are virtually bulletproof.

Like you, I worry about the dry starts/runs this engine has seen.

The VVT/AFM LS engines have been a problem from the start, Oil consumption, Lifter failures, Timing chain tensioner failures (Causing bent pushrods) & AFM manifold screen clogging.

If you were to install a new engine, Buy a 2008 & up LS3 long block, All your accessories, Intake, Oil pan, & exhaust manifolds will bolt right on. The only thing that has to be done is some tuning to get rid of the VVT/AFM.
Speartech.com or PCMforless.com can handle a mail order tune.

A new GM LS3 long block runs $5047.97 (+$1200 core), Your L92 is a suitable core, $1000 to install, $300 for fluids/Gaskets/misc. $250 for a mail order tune.

Enjoy another 200,000 miles worry free.

Update. Dealer installed new oil pump, sensor, and o-ring. Pressure still goes to almost zero after engine is warmed. Mechanical gauge shows the same as the cluster gauge. Dealer committed to finding the cause even if it means disassembly of the engine at no additional cost. I saw the engine with the oil pan off, clean as a new engine internally, and tech states there was absolutely no metal in the pan or screen when removed. I don't know enough about the modern engines to make an educated guess as to root cause or next steps. I'll up date the thread as I find out more. I appreciate all the input and advice from everyone.
