Maybe a push button with a hidden on off switch, like a parking light power to a relay and a momentary push button switch to start only
The aftermarket switches I have used (keyed) had a lock washer and I was able to tighten it up so it had enough tension to start!

Hey Solid! No I could care less about the switch. I just though since it came with the American Autowire kit I would use it. To me it seems like more trouble then it's worth.

Man your truck is looking good. I wish I was that far on mine. We got that snow here in Hanover too it really slows things down. I had trouble getting to my garage and that's just a walk to the back yard! Did that wiring kit include things like headlight switch and dimmer switch with harness plugs for them?

Hey Diesel. I know what yer sayin when it comes to the snow. I would be much further along if I wasn't such a big whimp when it comes to the cold and snow these days. Back in the day I would go skiing when it was -10 degrees. Hell I would even go to alot of the late fall dirt races around here and sit on aluminium bleachers in the freezing cold. At 54, not anymore!

Yes the American Autowire kit came with all the switches and plug connectors. The only thing I will need to buy in addition to the kit is a long cable for the battery to the starter, as I am going to put the battery inside the bed of the truck in an old Coke cooler.

A couple of small updates.........While I am waiting for warmer weather so I can paint the dash and get going on the wiring I figured I would throw the seat back in one more time before upholstery and get the throttle pedal figured out. Worked out pretty good with the new linkages I made on the carb side. I just had to make a small plate so I could off set the pedal enough so that the linkage arm could travel past the side of the dog house.
If you look close you can see a black dot to the left of the linkage. that is where the original would of had to have been to line up with the carb linkage.

Also got my brake booster line installed. Tapped into the clifford manifold for vacuum.

OK guys some small updates. I started making some of the connections on my wires. That is after having to buy all the right crimpers. The weather in Joisey has not allowed me to get my dash painted yet so I figured I would work in the engine bay. As I mentioned before I don't like sloppy wires hanging all over the place so I tried to hide as many as I could. To do this I ran my MSD wires in 2 seperate 5/16 aluminium tubing. The 2 tubes are clamped together with tubing seperators and then fastened to the fuel line. Turned out pretty good as the tubes kind of match the fins on the valve cover. The one tube carries the 2 wires from the box down to the harness on the dizzy, and the other tube carries the 2 coil wires. I flared all the ends of the tubes to prevent any chafing

Here's how they come out of the end of the tubes. I welded a spud to the coil bracket so I would have a place to mount a wire keeper so that the harness would not touch the engine when it was hot. turned out pretty good I guess.[/URL]
I also made up a PCV line. I don't like the way most inliners have done there PCV line by taking a piece of black tubing and just laying it over the top of the valve cover to the carb. To me that looks half assed. So again I took a piece of 1/2" aluminium tubing and wrapped it around behind the engine.

Well, the NJ weather finally took a turn for the better and we got a few warm days to finish painting the dash. As soon as it was dry enough I got the damn thing back in and out of the way in the garage.

I had to make a bracket to firm up the the dash behind the steering column as the old one was thrown out with the half assed swing arm brake pedal assembly. You can kind of see it through the dash cluster opening. I also started putting in some of the switches so I can plan my wire routing. This is going to take some time as my OCD tends to make me contemplate things for hours on end. LOL!

Got the heater back in with a new core and new 12 volt motor. I don't want to re-hash everything I had to do to save this heater, but lets just say it was a pain in the butt. Looking back I probably should have just nixed a heater altogether but we get some nice days here in the fall and winter, their just a little cold. Unfortunately it was my only option as I could not find a heater that would fit in the space I had (9 1/4").

Also got the last piece of the puzzle for the dash so I can start making my wire connections. I was going to go with Dakota digital but I cheaped out and went with Autometer. Just waiting on a wiper switch and grounding blocks that are on order. Then I can really jump into it!

I have been pluggin away on the under dash connections. Got most everything buttoned up under the dash except for the column harness. Guages are done, as well as the ignition and headlight switches. Got all my wires as neatly bundled up as I can, and secured under the dash. I am going to leave the wires unloomed for now until I am sure everything works. Here a shot of how everything looks under the dash before the guages went in. I mounted a terminal block to the dash support so I could run all my grounds to one central location. I also mounted my GPS speedo brain to the dash support brace. Not sure where I am going to mount the antenna as of yet but they give you 16ft. of wire so there is alot of options.

You know your getting something accomplished when all the holes in the dash start to disappear! LOL! The 2 wires sticking out of the dash are for the wiper switch and the kill switch from the MSD box.

Got everything buttoned up under the dash. That is after i realized I had the wrong guage for the Mustang sending unit, and had to take the cluster back out to change it.
Also got everything buttoned up on the fuse block side. And NO, I didn't use enough tie wraps!

Hey does anybody have any experience with the one piece Vbend windshields? Do they fit? What vendor to use?
I have come to a crossroad and I'm trying to figure out what I want to do.
The window frame I have has some rot at the bottom and I don't really see anyway to fix it. The cross bar covers it but just barely.

I guess I could shot a load of panel adhesive behing the cross bar when I do the re assemble and then try to shape it to look half way decent. I really don't want to pop for $500 bucks for a new frame. Might as well just go the one piece glass rouet at that point.

If you are talking about the 1 piece windshields that are actually bent in the middle the problem you are going to have is the bend is more of a curve than a straight bend. I have never seen one that actually lays flat and looks right(and seals good). If you are talking a v butt window, I have always thought they were ugly because of the seam in the middle. There is a reason GM used a chrome piece in the middle. I personally think a frame that is chromed with the center bar looks the best in these trucks but that is my opinion.

We used a V butt glass cut locally to fit a chrome WS frame and all is well, I think it came from Bowtie Bits and a bit pricey but it fits along with Steel rubber

But seriously your truck has the vibe that I think would look great with a chromed windshield frame. Plus how could you not have the leaky crank out windshield?
