If you do the power steering lines those are specific hose and fittings do not just use regular AN.

I fired her up last night. It was late and I wasn't able to get a video. Sorry. Man, does she have a rowdy idle, too!! With the open headers, she sounds MEAN!!!!

I have an issue, though. It sounds like something is rubbing or hitting somwhere. There's a grinding noise, mostly noticeable when I shut it off or rev it up a little. The trans is bolted up, but the torque converter is not. At first, I thought the converter had vibrated against the flexplate and that was causing the noise, but the converter is still sitting snug against the trans. I looked for anything that may be rubbing or hitting anywhere, but there's nothing visible. I'm thinking maybe the starter could be the culprit. It may not be fully disengaging.

Anybody have any ideas?

New upper and lower hoses, belt, trans lines, Lokar trans dipstick, temporary steam line, and other tidbits installed. Trans fluid and coolant put in. Reached in, turned they key to "ON" position, let the fuel pump prime, turned the key with eager anticipation............"click"................Battery is dead!!!!!!!

It's hotter than #$&* outside with high humidity today, and I'm sweating like a.............well I'm sweating pretty bad, so I hooked up the charger and came inside for a little while to cool off while the battery charges. Figured I would post a quick update since I'm inside.

Tried, and nothing. Tried jumping it off with 2 vehicles, and still nothing. The battery is a few years old, so it's probably time for a new one anyway. Back to the parts store!!

Yeah, I figured with it being inside the garage, it wouldn't sound too good. That's why I walked around to different positions. That was completely untuned with the #3 timing pill installed. I set the idle and mixture screws later, and the idle improved, then I put in gear. It has a great sounding idle in gear!! I'll try to get another vid when I have someone besides a 9 yr old to help out.

The open headers are fun, but I can't wait to get the exhaust hooked up. I'm hoping to take it Wednesday.

Got the headers connected to the exhaust yesterday.

I'll try to get a better video, but for now, this is all I was able to get. You will have to turn up the volume to hear it good. There's alot of background noise going on at the muffler shop.

I finally got a few things taken care of and it finally stopped raining here long enough, so I took her for the first test drive on Saturday. The engine feels very strong, but I still need to set the correct timing curve and tune the carb.

The first obstacle before fixing all that is getting the trans working right. It won't upshift. It stays in first gear. The guy that built it is planning to come check it out on Tuesday night. He said there's a valve that tends to stick closed after they have sat for a while that will keep it from shifting. He said he may have to remove the valve body to release it manually.

Brian, I'll see if I can do that. The fam and I are planning to attend an ADRL event in Charlotte the first weekend in Aug, so as long as we've recooped from that, I should be able to attend.

Do you have a cable and a laptop to load the MSD software, so you can connect with your MSD box? Just an FYI is you hadn't already heard...the MSD box will add/subtract timing based on what's in the MAP table...sensor or not.

So if you have a MAP...connect to tune your own vacuum advance curve.
If you don't have a MAP...0 out ALL values in the MAP table.

No laptop, but a friend is bringing one over. I already have the MAP curve figured into the initial tune. Thanks for the FYI, though.

Thanks, Keith. It shouldn't be too hard to tune. It's mainly just carb and timing. I've been doing that long enough to do it in my sleep. The biggest difference is setting the timing with a computer instead of weights, springs, vaccum advance, and twisting a dist. while holding a timing light.

Well, Geoff, I need to start buidling some funds back up first. I'm going to get new axles, and new Eaton LSD, and a new seal and bearing kit for it, and get it all assembled. Then, of course, I'll have to pick up some wheel spacers since the backspacing won't work with the early rearend width.

Sometime eventually, though, I'll just order a new set of wheels with correct backspacing.
