Thank You Jeff, If you notice I did the 68-69 GMC Vin grouping a little different. The outcome is the same. The way I did it is more consistant with the model number and the 70-71 GMC Vin Format. I did notice that GMC did it the other way, in the owners manual.

Thanks Tim, I really like the memories that your truck picture brings up. Growing up my parents took us camping at least once a month. Always a good time

Hey pritch, after you run your VIN's, let us know how the Decoders work.

I wish he had reached out sooner to me for help on confirming information on a few things as I collaborated with Bruce very slightly on this project to help him with info I personally had from doing this research and I know for a fact that he has 3-4 years of heavy research to develop this chart. None of this info was readily or easily available prior to now and he did this purely to help other GMC owners to be able to decipher their VIN's easily and accurately so he defiantly deserves our HEARTFELT THANKS!!!

A Tremendous Job Bruce, My hats off to you!!!

Thank you Paul, Those are wonderful compliments coming from a GMC expert like you. Both times I contacted you with a question you were very kind to answer, and prompt to. I only contacted you after I had exhausted all my other resources, on a particular question. Thank You for helping.
I was wondering if you would like to see where it started? Here is the first 67 gmc decoder that I drew up about 3 1/2 years ago. It was revised several times since then. I just looked the pic over this morning, and counted 8 changes and 2 mistakes.

I must say that is is an impressive job that you to put this all together. In the past I just found it easier to decode the GMC vins one at a time as there were so many variations. This is great tool for the masses.

300001 start number is normal for Flint. I haven't yet got all the specifics nailed down on that yet as to what years or why, but I have several Flint SPIDS that start with 300001. The 1971 Chevys started with 600001 and if a second assembly line was used then those VIN's started with 800001. I really didn't have room to list all the starting number possibility's, so I just listed the most common starting numbers.

Roninwolf, Is this the truck in your avatar and has it been in the family since new. If so that is Awesome, don't ever sell it. I'll look into Flint a little more and see what I can find for you. Any chance of getting a pic of the SPID?

Re: GMC and Chevrolet VIN and Model Number Decoders with pics.

Allen, Just went through my collection and it looks like most of the 1972 Chevy Flint trucks started with 300001, Some 1972 Flint trucks started with 100001 and a few with 700001. Anybody with more info on this, please post it up.

Thanks! It sat in a shed for a few years after my pawpaw started getting alzhiemers then my grandmother told me to go ahead and get it out and take it home because it was going downhill fast and it was gonna be mine anyway so I did and been trying to get it back in shape since.

I was curious, my vin says its a 67 but my title says its a 68. Did they do that if they were left over for the next year? Any help would be appreciated.

Some states would date a title based on year sold not the model year of the vehicle. The big thing here is to make sure the title has the exact same VIN as the truck (plate SPID and frame, if present). If they match its not really a problem. However it could also just be a typo. Once absolutely sure everything is correct numberwise, you might look at correcting the title with DMV.
