Re: 79 GMC Sierra LWB 6.0L swap

Ok guys, trying to decide on the electronic or a cable style throttle body. My engine came with an electronic style but I don't have the pedal or TCM. Or does the PCM control the throttle? I have a cable style also so I have both. Just need the pedal and TCM. What would I have to do to use the cable style? Thanks in advance.

The ECMs are different between the drive by wire and drive by cable. Do you have both ECMs?

No I just picked up an intake with the cable T/B on it. I have to have the PCM reflashed anyway, can the electronic T/B function be taken out? Or would it be best to just get the pedal and TCM?

Get a pedal & TAC module. Drive by wire computers do not have IAC functions. And your stock harness has no IAC plug or harness. You will also need the harness between the TAC module and pedel.

I see modules, harness, pedal at wreaking yards all the time, got the whole package for $20 a few weeks ago

the drive by wire is a cleaner install and only requires 4 wires to be hooked up for cruise control because its all controlled by the computer.

Now that Christmas is over I will try to get over there this week. I am off Friday thats when I plan to go. BullDawgMuscleCars is also local for me I want to go by and see his build. He thinks that their kit will set the motor and trans high enough to get the a/c in the stock location. Thats what Phil at BRP told me also. But I would like to see before I spend the money.

Re: 79 GMC Sierra LWB 6.0L swap

Hey guys another stupid question. Does this electronic throttle pedal need a TAC (Throttle Accuator Control)? Or is it built in to the pedal or something seperate?

Re: 79 GMC Sierra LWB 6.0L swap

Does anybody know year interchangeability for the 4l60E, 4l65E, and 4l80E are. The 6.0l is out of a 2003 Yukon Denali. Haven't decided which trans to use yet. Was told for a daily drive light towing the 4l60e is OK, the 4l65E is a beefed up 4l60E. and the 4l80E was used in the 3/4 ton trucks for heavy towing. Was also told that the 4l80E took more HP because of the large rotating mass of the internal components. I just need to know which years I can use. OK Ole guys of wisdom lets hear it.

Re: 79 GMC Sierra LWB 6.0L swap

Depending on what trans the PCM and harness you have is made to control depends on what your next options are. If the PCM controlled the 4l60e and has the wiring harness then that is the easiest thing. If you change to a different trans then you will need to change some of the pin placements and have the PCM segmented for the right trans.

I was going to let wait4me performance reflash my PCM and rework my stock harness. Do you know what years I need to stay with?

Small update with a few pics. Motor is back together. got the gas pedal and TAC module. Motor mount plates are ordered, got the Harness and ECM boxed ready to ship to Wait4Me Performance . Will start pulling old engine in the next few days. Slow but any progress is a good thing!

Looking good! Looks like my customer is running into a few delays, but hopefully it won't be too much longer. I'm really looking forward to doing one of these swaps for myself!

Yea! I am working a little on the truck and a lot on my patience While I had it apart I put a set of Z06 Valve springs with titanium retainers and keepers with new valve seals and a set of Comp Cams .080 wall push rods. I did this now because when I get it in and running I may want to put a set of 1.8 roller tip rockers on it too help with the low end torque.

Re: 79 GMC Sierra LWB 6.0L swap

Dang, I'm just starting to get caught up on all the build threads. The swap is looking good! I like what your body guy did with the floor for the seats! I was kicking around using a set of those in my 85, but not sure I want to relocate the gas tanks after just buying 2 new ones! I've though about building my own mounts and using a set of universal slides, that would set the seats a lot lower.

Lookin great, keep it up!
