Re: switch out carb on 64

I put a Holley/weber from langdons stovebolt on my 230. It was a great carb but I never did get the choke dialed in. Nice that it's a progressive 2 barrel so you can get decent mileage if you want to.

It did require a baseplate adapter that he also sells.

An early 80,s Rochester Monojet for a 292 is a good carb. It has electric choke. Or any 292 monojet with manual choke.

Try Daytona Parts. They provided me with a reconditioned stock Rochester for my 63 and it works great.

Re: switch out carb on 64

I just replaced my rochester B with a carter yf model # 4371. I found it on ebay.
I havent driven the truck yet but it does idle nice. yf is supposed to give better mileage.

i could get the rochester to run good for a while, then usually after one summer it would start to bog down and leak from the lid and need another rebuild, i got tired of that after 40 plus years of rebuilding it.

Re: switch out carb on 64

I think the carb for the 292 if correct should have the same bore as the manifold at 1 5/8". 250's used a smaller bore carb at 1 9/16 on the same manifold.

We had a 292 in a 67 1 ton and I don't remember any carb problems. It burned lots of gas but then again it was a work truck with a heavy dump box. Lot's of torque in those engines.

Monojet or a 500 cfm holley 2 barrel with a 2 to 1 adapter will work nicely.
