My Suburban project while I'm back in college.

This is what I'm starting with. Spent $1800, $200 more then I wanted, but it's a good Truck. So far no bad rust. Changed the lifters and plugs. Intake and carb next.

Did the carb, Edelbrock 1406 free, rebuild kit from summit $33 bucks
Wiend intake $50 from craigslist.
Plug wires $22 from summit.
160 thermostat and upper radiator hose like $25 from summit.
Drove it to emisions two days later and passed with flying colors.

Today I fixed my side marker lights to work as turn signals. Then got the bug and gutted the back half. There was carpet then a rubber mat under it. Pulled the second row seat. I think I cleaned out 20 years worth of spilt oil. Man that was nasty, sorry I didn't take pics before I started.

Thanks everybody, gonna be fun to see this Burb come together. Have to start saving my $$$ for a brake and axle swap. I'm determined to put the new Camaro wheels on the Suburban. As well as a 5.3L or 6.0L.

Well I found my rust. Not to bad yet. I know I'll find more, but what I have seen so far not to terrible. Replaced the neutral safety switch and fixed the reverse lights. But now I found another lighting problem. When I turn on the right turn signal the left brake light stops working. Any help with that would be awesome. Here are a few new pics. Cleaned the back seat belts, still need to clean the front.

BTW: Do you have a photo of the third seat still mounted to the floor? There's a member looking for a photo of the position of the mounts.

Good to see you not wasting any time there. Put a buffer to that paint job mayne. You got some gloss in that paint under all the crud!

What did you use on the seatbelts?

The Suburban didn't have the third seat when I got it, just the holes. And for the seat belts I soaked them in water and degreaser for about 24 hours. Then hit them with a pressure washer. I used purple power degresser from autozone. Used some oil eater to, just what little was left in the bottle. The fronts are soaking now. Will post pics tomorrow. And I'm saving my $$$ now for that brake swap. Just trying to do the little things now.

Here is a little before and after on the front seat belts. As well as a few pics of my electric fan conversion. Ill be finishing that up tomorrow. Then spend the rest of my weekend doing my college home work.

And if you clean your seatbelts like i did. Don't forget to move the buckle while cleaning. So you are not left with one dirty spot.

Got the fan mounted in the shourd, it looked awesome. Went to put it in and the fan motor hit the water pump pully. Thought I would clear. Had to adjust a bit. This is where I am at. Ran out of out of time. So the wiring isn't done yet. Ill try and do theat in the morning.

That rustout at the base of the kickpanel is almost always the result of water from the corner of the gutter flowing thru the seam gap and down the windshield post structure. The water comes out on top of the floor and usually rusts through. Your isnt too bad! There is a gutter just inside of the door rubber that is usually filled up with mud and rust that needs to be cleaned up to assess how the top side of the rocker panels are. That's a pretty good find for $1800!

So I was able to finish the wiring for the fan, works great. Just fine tunning the temp setting. Was hard to test drive on a 4gal bucket. But it did well. I could use a little bigger fan. I need to flush the system and I got the hook up on aluminum radiators. So gonna wait and see. So paid $45 for the fan, and $40 for the wiring. Then $13 for a thermostat housing, needed it for the temp sensor. So $98 bucks not to bad. Put a little polish on the hood. LOL think I may buff her while Im saving my money for suspension and brakes.

I will post more pics when my camera starts working again.

when looking for a new rad, get one with a bung on it for the fan controller. You want to cool the coolant in the rad, not the engine. It'll work the way you have it, but not nearly as good as if it was wired to the rad.
Your turn signal problem you mentioned up there is a bad turn signal switch.
